Details

The Houw Hoek Tour is a non-competitive 2 day MTB stage event. The objective is to give MTB’s and newcomers to multi-stage events (NOT NEWCOMERS TO MTB) the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of scenic, fun and non-competitive riding. However, make sure that you are fit as each of the two stages are approximately 50 km, mostly on gravel roads (including jeep and single tracks) and that you can and love riding single tracks.

Any hubbers that have done this?

Sounds pretty neat.

Your comments?

Awesome event.

I just wonder given the recent fires on Paul Cluver if the route will be changed, or whether Paul Cluver may be rebuilt by then.

LeoKnight, Mar 06 2019 10:06

Also done it twice, it is really a magical event

Jako De Wet, Mar 06 2019 10:15

Did it last year, definitely on the list this year. Great event, great trails, just make sure you "seed" yourself properly.

Christie, Mar 06 2019 10:23

Any status update on the trails at Paul Cluver? I heard the Botriver fire burned up to the amphitheatre there, and some areas of Oak Valley. Those little bridges on the red route is magical, it would be tragic if they are no more.

First time for me to ride this event. Looking super forward to it

This is the best introduction you could ask for in terms of Stage riding... Its very relaxed, great vibes at the end of each day... Done this event for the last 5 or 6 years.. Thats how good it is..

matthieup, Mar 06 2019 10:44

Mates of mine have been doing it for the past few years. It'll be my first

PjT, Mar 06 2019 12:39

Entry done...

Chingy182, Mar 06 2019 01:21

Awesome event.

Great value for money

PjT, Mar 06 2019 02:02

Race entries limited to 900 riders.

According to race organisers, only about 175-200 entries left.

Kom, Mar 06 2019 02:06

The houw hoek inn also has extra capacity now to provide capacity at the start/finish/start for Day 1 - i stayed in the new part of the hotel recently and its really nice.

I partially agree that this is affordable stage racing in that the entry is cheap compared - but having to pay for accomodation and logistics around finishing in Hermanus and making your way back to Hoew Hoek is a bit of a schlep.

this... highly recommended.

It's a lot of fun. Will miss it this year I think but I've done it three times. Last year rode back to Houwhoek from the finish on the road which was more fun than one might initially think.

Christie, Mar 07 2019 01:27

Bad news: Paul Cluver is closed for mtb. Most of the bridges have been destroyed by the fire.
They are rebuilding, and will open some areas over time.

Mamil, Mar 08 2019 09:48

What the heck...I'm in

Went riding with JK,owner of the event, this morning.Paul Cluver will be 100% repaired by the time of the event and everything on course for the event.

Great news 👍

Andrea Fletcher 3l3v3n, Mar 14 2019 10:06

I am looking for 2 entries.  So, if any of you hubbers have, and cannot ride for whatever reason, and you feel like being generous, you can send them my way LOL!  TIA!  :whistling:

MariusJK, Apr 08 2019 11:26

howdie.. I'm out of commission for 6 weeks after taking a dive this weekend:( I've got 1 entry if an one is looking [sold]

DuncanDoughnuts, Apr 26 2019 07:07

love this event, have done it every year... chilled ride... don't expect free runs in the single track though ... unless you group yourself in the race snake group....

take it for what it is... a chilled day in the saddle and you will have fun

aquaratza, May 02 2019 10:02

I'm booked to ride this with some friends, we're apparently going to take it "easy". Super excited.

BuffsVintageBikes, May 02 2019 10:05

I'll be there again this year, looking forward to it although it's looking like we're in for a chilly ride.

PjT, May 03 2019 03:49

Yes, also looking forward to doing this for the 1st time.

Bring the cold and cloudy weather...better than blistering sun.

Safe riding all!

PjT, May 06 2019 10:09

Wow! What an awesome event....well organised...and really great routes with good variety of terrain.
