Trailforks Route
https://www.trailfor...n-funduro-2020/

Start/Finish at Ground Zero. Arrive by 8:00 for an informal registration/briefing. Registrations close at 08:15. Ride out at 8:30.

Free entry. Riders are only requested to pay up their Hillbillies MTB Club memberships, for the use of the trails. R200 for an annual membership through www.hillbillies.co.za website, or you can pay R50 for a day pass on the day.

This is not an official event, it is just a bunch of riders comparing times. Health & Safety is the sole responsibility of each rider.

The Full Funduro will consist of 5 stages, each between 1-2km in length. Total distance is ±32km.

LITE category will cover the first 3 stages, which are much less technical (all blue trails). Total distance ±23km.

The full route will be published on Trailforks on Friday, 18th September.

For those who don't know what an enduro is...downhills are timed, and the uphills are mandatory but not timed. Riders are timed in stages that are primarily downhill, with neutral "transfer" stages in between.

It will be Strava timed, unless we find some volunteer timing marshals.

The route will not be formally marked/taped. Riders are advised to practice beforehand and familiarise themselves with the trails.

A-lines will not be taped off. Riders should scout ahead of time, and decide which features to avoid.

After the ride, everyone can go home for a shower. Return at about 16:00 to compare times and have a good time.

Also, lil Dan needs a smack for not doing the quarry doubles ;)

You should pop the preview videos on Youtube too. Far easier to find than IG TV. They're a great showcase for anyone interested in the trails and it'd be a shame to have them hidden away from the internet.

Thanks Nick. I'll certainly do that after the event.

Bud, well done for all the effort you are putting into this, posting the vid etc. You are really doing a great job.

Just for interest, I some kids tracks in George. Are there any near the venue? We are starting and finishing from Witfontein MTO right? Just If the wife and kids wanted to come take a look.

Thermophage, Sep 18 2020 10:31

Start is at the Botanical Gardens man, well just to the left (west) of it, but ya, a quick pedal from pretty much anywhere in George :)

And it's only 1200m climbing, not so bad :D

Thank you for the kind words Bos

The start & finish is at Ground Zero Bike Park, which has a coffee shop and awesome pump track for kids.

Oh well..cant have it all now can we. On a slightly more serious note. For us out of towners. The windguru report seems ok for Saturday, bit of rain Friday night but nothing torrential. Saturday sees a 25 knots Westerly and 15C temps. Will a cycling top plus wind jammer suffice or should I be thinking more? I know the radio tower is pretty alpine and exposed. Freezing my ass off all day is not going to go down well. I might just come in a longsleave top anyway.

Second question, will there be stalls at the start area at all? I'm going to need a power bar or two to keep me fueled and maybe even a gu for the last climb. I'm not bargaining on any water points during the ride either right?

Thanks again for putting this event on. Goodluck with the last arrangements. See you on Saturday.

The start of stages 2, 4 & 5 are pretty exposed. I would pack at least a shell. You probably won't be cold on the transfers, it's just waiting to drop in that might get chilly.

No stalls at the start, the Ground Zero shop might have something. I'll DM you the owners number.

On a positive note, the Hillbillies MTB Club and my wife have sponsored a small water table. It will be at the start of Stage 3, so you will pass it again on your way to stage 4 & 5. The snacks & drink are limited though, so don't rely solely on that.

@bos we take a steak and some hanepoot. Should sort out all nutrition and heat needs

Jewbacca, Sep 25 2020 11:37

So, is anyone from George giving guided tours of the stages this afternoon? Nick and I are passing through riviersondereind on our way...

Bos, Sep 25 2020 12:24

Cool. Thanks for that. Getting really really excited!

So we just rode stage 4 and 5.... I jizzed all over myself.

Some parts are pretty sketchy in the wet, especially on a kids bike. But the steeps are amazing.

If it doesn't dry out there will be some very touch and go places. The rocks and roots were getting pretty ice rinky... The railway crossing on stage 5 in the wet is also a death trap. Haahahaha

The trails are amazing.

See you guys at 8 tomorrow

nox1111, Sep 26 2020 05:41

Never in my life have I cramped as hard or as continuous... Hells bells.
Fun day out nonetheless.
Thanks Chris!
