Best Bike in Africa 2015: #7 Merida Ninety-Six Team

The Best Bike in Africa will be held at the 2015 Standard Bank Africa Cycle Fair on 23 – 25 October at St Stithians College, Johannesburg. The competition invites fair visitors to vote for their favourite bike at the Best Bike in Africa stand. All the entrants that vote for the bike that wins the Best Bike in Africa will go into a draw to win the bike. Leading up to the fair, we’ll be be revealing the bikes entered in the Best Bike in Africa. A new week brings the Merida Ninety-Six Team.

Merida’s new Ninety-Six is the second generation for this model name with the Ninety-Nine having been the brands’ XC / marathon bike for past few years. This edition of the Ninety-Six has been re-engineered to better suit 1x drivetrains with wheel size depending on frame size.

The Team edition sports top-notch racing components with a RockShox RS1 fork, SRAM XX1 drive gear, Guide Ultimate brakes, DT Swiss XR1501 wheels and carbon parts in the cockpit.

The wheel base seems a bit long. Longer wheelbases makes for less agile handling.

Not a Merida fan at all. One thing this that none of the other bikes had thus far is the SRAM Guide Brakes. Dual Piston is the way to go, would have expected to see these on the Yeti etc as well..
