The NX Eagle drivetrain shares many technologies found in the GX, X01, and XX1 Eagle drivetrains. One significant change, however, is in the design of the cassette.
Like the 11-speed NX cassette, the NX Eagle cassette features one extra tooth on its smallest cog. This gives the NX Eagle cassette an 11-50T gear range compared to the rest of the Eagle family's 10-50T range. The larger small ring allows the NX Eagle cassette to be compatible with ordinary splined freehub bodies, doing away with the need to purchase a compatible XD freehub. Of course, those already on an XD hub with a SRAM 11-speed drivetrain will need to source a splined freehub should they want access to the budget 12-speed cassette. The NX Eagle cassette is said to be the toughest Eagle cassette promising the most durability. It is also approved for the additional forces of e-MTB use.
The NX drivetrain is fully compatible with components across SRAM's Eagle range should you wish to mix and match your Eagle components, including the NX Eagle derailleur which is designed to be compatible with the wider ranges of the GX, X01, and XX1 10-50T Eagle cassettes.
Local pricing and availability:
The SRAM NX 1x12 drivetrain is expected to retail at around R5,999 with the option of an upgrade kit at a lower price. NX Eagle stock should arrive August.

Specifications

Technologies
SRAM X-SYNC2 Eagle is the next evolution of SRAM X-SYNC technology. The aggressive teeth design provides better chain retention for a smoother, more efficient pedal feel. With a focus on long wear-life, the X-SYNC2 Eagle design reduces friction and the accumulation of mud, grit and grime.
ZERO LOSS
ZERO LOSS simply means, well, zero loss—when you push on the lever, for an upshift or down shift, the cable is engaged instantly—zero loss of movement. There is no middle-ground where you’re waiting for the shift to come. Gear changes are instant and precise.
X-HORIZON
The X-HORIZON rear derailleur’s ‘straight parallelogram’ design limits all movement to the horizontal axis, which makes ghost shifting impossible while also reducing shift force. For quicker, more exact shifting, the large upper pulley offset design maintains a constant chain gap across all gears.
CAGE LOCK
With CAGE LOCK technology in the rear derailleur, wheel removal and installation—as well as chain installation—becomes faster and simpler. Just pushing the cage forward to create slack and lock it into place.
X-ACTUATION
Developed specifically for SRAM 1x, X-ACTUATION keeps shifting sharp and consistent across the entire cassette.
Ultra-smooth chain inner-plates are completely devoid of square edges, resulting in a chain that engages the cassette and chainring with far less friction, for quieter performance and better wear life. The design allows a narrower overall profile that can withstand greater angles, and also allows for a flatter outer-plate, which means more consistent chain riveting and enhanced overall strength.
BOOST
BOOST is a new wheel and drivetrain specification that opens the opportunity for improved frame geometry with shorter chain stays, wider and stiffer suspension pivots, a wider range of chainring options as well as more clearance for bigger tires and wider, stiffer wheels.
ROLLER BEARING CLUTCH
ROLLER BEARING CLUTCH rear derailleurs deliver maximum drivetrain stability—even through the most punishing terrain. With ROLLER BEARING CLUTCH technology, derailleur bounce and chain slap are eliminated without sacrificing precision.
X-GLIDE2
X-GLIDE2 is next generation of SRAM X-GLIDE technology optimized for the Eagle 12-speed cassette. It provides quick, precise, power-on shifting performance throughout the gear range, and increases chain retention on larger cogs.

Awesome! I had the NX 11spd gear on a previous bike and it was faultless. This is a no brainer for anyone wanting to to go 1x12. Just get a GX 10-50t cassette with and NX mech, shifter, and chain and you are sorted (Hopefully some of our favourite online stores can put that upgrade kit together for us). Same same cassette. Just lighter
Schnavel, Jun 14 2018 04:29
The NX cassette is considerably heavier!
Interesting that the shifter is the lightest across the range.
Sitting slip, Jun 14 2018 04:31
will run on a regular free wheel body= millions sales!
Koei, Jun 14 2018 10:18
Clearly flipping the bird to Shimano's genius idea of designing a whole new standard for free wheel body.
Piston ZA, Jun 15 2018 08:53
LOL. Top comment on Pinkbike ... " Look at that, a 12 speed drivetrain compatible with a Shimano freehub! Not even Shimano could pull that off!"
JA-Q001, Jun 15 2018 08:58
wonder what the weight difference is between the NX steel front ring and the normal alu front ring, because this steel one looks great and should last ages.
Headshot, Jun 15 2018 11:51
That's about R1k more than you could buy this for in the USA/EU. Not cool CSS.
Hairy, Jun 15 2018 12:17
PeterF, Jun 15 2018 12:34
In Shimano's defense this is not entirely fair as just like SRAM, Shimano re-designed their freebody to accomodate the 10t cog. The standard freebody compatible 12 speed cassettes will most likely trickle down at a later date.
IH8MUD, Jun 15 2018 02:13
Never looked at Eagle till now. . . .
Questions:
Will the chain work on any generic narrow/wide like from RaceFace, Hope or WolfTooth, or must it be that SRAM chainring?
PeterF, Jun 15 2018 02:19
Works fine with any NW chainring. I use an Absolute Black Oval and it works perfectly.sirmoun10goat, Jun 15 2018 03:37
Did anyone check the total for the wight of the NX:
Sum of the weights below is 2049, not 1980
Juniordeklerk, Jun 15 2018 03:53
It is like a sunrace cassetteHairy, Jun 15 2018 07:08
that cassette is a little beefy .... but if it is rated for
motorbikese-bikes, then I would look forward to many miles of riding before it dies.....hope the chains are up to the task.solty, Jun 15 2018 07:32
SRAM is really pushing hard to kill off 1x11 with this. I wonder if we'll still see any new bikes coming out with 1x11 Sram kit.Pikey, Jun 15 2018 07:33
Agree 100%,but that’s typical of buying locally and CSS getting there extra, nothing new unfortunately.Handlebars4Life, Jun 16 2018 01:38
The NX ring is about 120g more
BaGearA, Jun 17 2018 02:18
That comment is very serious tho , I seriously think this Groupset is the final shimano killer
Headshot, Jun 18 2018 01:05
Um... No.
