It’s the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland this weekend and Johann Potgieter will be representing South Africa in the Elite Downhill race on Sunday afternoon. He’ll be piloting a custom painted YT Tues for the event.
The Team Racing Dudes were presented with custom painted YT Tues frames for the 2018 World Championships. South Africa’s Johann Potgieter’s bike is decorated in green and gold with a touching tribute to his wife on the top tube. The paint scheme was crafted by German designers 70id.
Pottie is racing a SRAM’s 7-speed downhill specific X01 groupset with a 34 tooth chainring and an ethirteen chain guard to avoid any slips. He clips into a pair of Shimano DX pedals.
The suspension features RockShox with a 2018 Boxxer World Cup fork and Vivid R2C shock. Pottie keeps the speed in check with a pair of SRAM Code RC brakes.
The bike rolls on DT Swiss’s proven FR 1950 wheels with 650b sized rims. The bike currently has Maxxis Highroller and Minion DHF tyres fitted front and back respectively. Although he may change this combination depending on conditions on race day.
The handlebar and stem are a Truvativ Descendent pairing with the bars having been cut down to 780mm and the stem measuring 50mm. The saddle and seatpost are from SDG with ODI grips finishing off the cockpit.
The bike weighs in at around 16 kilograms, not a problem for Pottie’s gun show.
