Swiss marathon specialist Christoph Sauser and his partner Jaroslav Kulhavy of team Investec Songo-Specialized were many people’s favourites coming into the Absa Cape Epic this year. A few unlucky mechanicals saw them miss out on the coveted top step of the podium, but claim second overall in the most competitive field to date. We took a closer look at Christoph’s Specialized Epic FSR.
Sauser’s Cape Epic steed had a custom paint job with an oil and sparkle finish. Other details include the Songo.info colours in the Specialized branding on the down tube and the names of the children from the Songo.info programme. Blue Supacaz Siliconez grips add a splash of colour to the cockpit.
Specialized Renegade lightweight XC tyres on a Roval Control SL 29 wheelset get everything rolling. Magura MT8 Carbon brakes provide the stopping force required.
Sauser’s bike is kitted out with SRAM’s 12 speed XX1 Eagle drivetrain, equipped with a 36T Rotor Q-Rings chain ring and Rotor Rex power meter. The bottom bracket and headset come from CeramicSpeed’s catalogue.
The cockpit features an SWorks carbon seatpost, handlebar, and Power saddle. Syntace provided the stem while the pedals are Look’s S-Track Carbon Ti model.
