The 2017 Cape Pioneer Trek international mountain bike stage race, to which entries opened on 14 December 2016, will offer a refined rider experience, a Queen Stage and a fresh look, thanks to the investment of new sponsors, Momentum Health and Biogen.

The ninth edition of the annual seven-day mountain bike stage race, which is dubbed #racewithsoul, will be the first of a three-year partnership with Momentum Health, South Africa’s leading health and wellness company, and Biogen, the leading South African sports supplement brand.

The investment made by these two companies will see even greater refinement of the event, which continues to attract an increasing number of international participants as well as a growing number of discerning South African mountain bikers looking for a rewarding week-long mountain bike experience.

The 2017 edition of the Momentum Health Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen from 15–21 October, will be based around the Western Cape towns of Mossel Bay, George and Oudtshoorn and will also see the return of a Queen Stage, the details of which will be announced at the route launch next May. It will once again hold an International Cycling Union (UCI) grading, one of just three South African stage races allocated this status.

“This race is now very established and we are now working on refining everything so that the participants feel completely satisfied with every aspect of the event,” said Henco Rademeyer of Dryland Event Management, the company that owns and organises the Momentum Health Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen.

“We’re making sure that the route is as stimulating as possible, whether it’s the actual trail itself or the scenery. We have journey stages from one town to another, and then exploration stages, where stages start and finish at the same venue. Make no mistake, the route will still be challenging, but we want the participants to feel like they’ve done a proper mountain bike race when they’re finished,” said Rademeyer.

“Off the bike, the 2017 rider experience will also be honed. We are adding luxury tents and platinum upgrade packages for more options. Our chill zones will also be improved further as will the transition procedure from town to town.

“The partnership between Momentum Health and the Cape Pioneer Trek is a logical fit for us, seeing that research clearly shows that your physical and financial health are closely related. For this exact reason we’ve carefully designed our Health product to reward active individuals, like the ones riding the Cape Pioneer Trek,” said Carel Bosman, Head of Sponsorships, Momentum.

“Biogen is extremely excited to be working alongside Dryland Events on yet another premier mountain bike stage race on the South African calendar. The recent awarding of UCI status to the Cape Pioneer Trek speaks volumes of the calibre of event that riders can expect and we relish the opportunity to get stuck in and add value,” said Brandon Fairweather, Biogen Marketing Manager.

Entries for the 2017 Momentum Health Cape Pioneer Trek, presented by Biogen open on 14 December 2016. Head to www.capepioneer.co.za to enter or for more information.

I for one am tempted for another Pioneer, but cannot for the life of me think why you would enter before they have even announced the route.

The only event that is able to pull that move off is the Cape Epic.

It is good to see a decent corporate sponsor on board. Hopefully Momentum can do for the CPT what FNB did for W2W.

Can only strengthen with Momentum on board...good move!

For me as a back marker weekend warrior type rider riding the Cape Pioneer Trek a couple of times was 10 times better and much more rewarding then riding the Cape Epic. Cape Epic made me feel like just another number to fill up the entries, CPT made me feel part of a bunch of riders enjoying riding their bikes in some of the most beautiful parts of our country.

Great race the Pioneer, organised by awesome people at Dryland. As Nathrix says, a far more 'community' and 'rider oriented' feel to it than the Epic, so a bit of a different experience.
