2014 Africa Cycle Fair: Day 3 - Shimano XTR Di2, Pinarello F8, Giant Propel, Ritchey Swiss Cross

There is just too much to show from the 2014 Africa Cycle Fair. Here is part 1 of the day three finds with a few Shimano Di2 equipped steeds.

Shimano XTR Di2

The team from Coolheat had a test bike fitted with Shimano XTR Di2 3x11. Arriving at the stand we gave them a bit of a grilling about it's practicality on a mountain bike. But after trying our best to confuse the 3x11 synchronous shifting (and prove them wrong) we left impressed.

The shifting is super smooth, precise and although a ratio overkill, the 3x11 set up showed off XTR Di2's operation in the most complex setup.

Pinarello Dogma F8 with Shimano Dura Ace Di2

An instant crowd puller we were accompanied by a "security" escort bringing this beauty to our couch for some shots. Priced at over R180k just taking photos was a nerve wracking task. Though with 40 sales and 10 on pre-order they're on our roads. Fess up! Which of you Hubbers have one? ;)

Giant Propel with Shimano Dura Ace Di2

No escorts this time, but another top end, super aero roadie over the R100k mark (around R140k). The Giant Propel does look quick...

the Ritchey looks awesome..

TriGuru76, Oct 27 2014 02:23

The Ritchey CycloCross is kitted out with Shimano Ultegra Di2 Hydraulic parts, HED Ardennes wheels (just change tyres to make it a road bike) and full Ritchey WCS Cockpit.

Wow that dogma,eish

That Pinarello sure is sexy. But with all the fakes and knock off I could never pay that amount for 1. But I give them 10/10 for pure sexiness.

I'd rather have the Giant than the Pina, personally. Just looks less pretentious and (dare I say it) Chinese :)

Interesting to see the addition of mini v-brakes on the Giant. IMO it's a far better proposition than the cantilevers that roadies used to use!

That Giant looks flippen uncomfy. I would not last 10km on it. Much prefer the endurance bikes. Sure is sexy, no doubt.

leaboy, Oct 28 2014 07:43

Will you gents be reviewing Schwalbe's Procore dual-chamber system?

YUMEYA, Oct 28 2014 07:48

I prefer the look of Bianchi over the Pina.

Jip,bianchi's are hot,bit dissapointed with their stand though, was looking forward to see their 2015 range of helmets, gear ect.

Gandalf, Oct 28 2014 08:04

That Ritchey.. WANT!!!

GrantRH, Oct 28 2014 08:20

So when can we get the Di2?

Koei, Oct 28 2014 08:25

...and also, how long do we have to wait for the x11 XT range?

DeFconOK, Oct 28 2014 02:17

Ritchey Cross is Sexy. They need to sacrifice that seat post and make it look sexier. The Detail one those frames is amazing.

Shimano guys could do some dusting.

UpShift_Cycles, Oct 28 2014 03:03

Too many great bikes to just choose one

What does that even mean ?

Jan/Feb 2015 it should be in SA.

No offici word on the XT Di2 "trickle down" yet...

rouxtjie, Oct 28 2014 03:20

Played on the XTR elec at the fair...pretty cool stuff. Shifts like butter. What could be freakin awesome is that you somehow link it to a cadence sensor and shift up or down automatically to maintain for example 90 rpm....think we chatted about it at the show eldron

Too long dammit.

Trying to see whether the US has them yet. I see CRC already has them on their website, but out of stock.

I'm disappointed..

3 days coverage and not one expo-girl photo?
