Botriver Education Foundation success stories continue to grow

The Botriver Education Foundation (BEF) together with the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Events is excited to continue growing the success stories in the Botriver Community.

Established in 2005, the BEF is a voluntary association that aims to motivate and encourage students in the Botriver community to study in the fields of engineering, accounting and medicine.

“Our mission is to develop a community to one day see at least one graduate in each household in Botriver,” says Anthony Hess, BEF Coordinator. “We nurture students, from as early as Grade 8, through their schooling career and hopefully into an institution of higher learning. Currently we have seventy learners of which fifty-eight are at tertiary institutions and twelve are at high school. In July this year we started mathematical conceptualization which is a new academic initiative for grade 4-7 from Botriver Primary School. Learners use the internet based Green Shoots program, which follows the Western Cape Education Department’s curriculum, to work at mathematics at their own pace. The outcome will be measured at the next exam opportunity. BEF’s partnership with W2W is absolutely invaluable for the human development exercise that we are busy with in Botriver.”

To date the BEF boasts eleven graduates: two accountants, four teachers, a sports administrator, a nurse, two with diplomas in agriculture and one with a degree in psychology. Two graduates also form part of the BEF committee.

The BEF’s annual fund raising event, the Botrivier Challenge celebrates its 12th anniversary in October.
