Known by many mountain bikers for their water point activations and marshal support at the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Events, the Elgin Round Table is a proud supporter of numerous charities within the Elgin/Grabouw area including two Old Age Homes, the ACVV Dienssentrum Meals On Wheels Project, Speelland Pre-School and Elgin Drummies to name just a few.

Started in 1952, the main aim of the Elgin Round Table is to enjoy fellowship with people from all walks of life, while organising fund raising events and community activities.

“We’ve been involved with the FNB W2W MTB Events since its inception,” says Wessel Steyn, Elgin Round Table Secretary. “We man the water points in the Elgin/Grabouw area and also provide marshals to assist with the event activations on route. We love being part of the event as we get to interact with people from outside areas. At the same time we are also able to generate funds that can be utilized towards worthwhile projects such as the ACVV Dienssentrum Meals On Wheels Project.”

Started in August 2012, the ACVV Dienssentrum Meals On Wheels Project supplies meals to the elderly community of Grabouw.

“We supply cooked meals three times per week,” says Freda Pieters, Service Centre Organiser at the ACVV Dienssentrum Meals On Wheels Project. “The support received from the Elgin Round Table helps to make this service possible. The elderly community is also directly involved with the FNB W2W MTB Events. They cook the potatoes and butter the bread for the water points that are managed by members of the Elgin Round Table. The direct involvement is good for the members as they feel that they make a difference.”
