Seyffert receives two year ban from competition

Cycling South Africa reports that Pieter Seyffert who returned an adverse analytical finding in an in-competition test conducted by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport(SAIDS) on 17 February 2013 has been found guilty and has received a two year ban from all sport. The analytical report confirmed the presence of the stimulant, Phentermine in his urine sample. The finding and sanction were handed down by the independent SAIDS tribunal which was held on 9 July 2013. Seyffert is suspended for a period of two years from 10 April 2013 to 9 April 2015.
In addition, all competitive results obtained by Seyffert from the date of collection of the positive sample, being 17 February 2013, will be disqualified with all of the resulting consequences including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes (including prize money).

Cycling South Africa respects the independence of the SAIDS process and therefore respects the outcome. Cycling South Africa further reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and will increase its education and awareness programmes along with SAIDS to eradicate the scourge of doping from the sport.

Any proffesional (read registered at the HPCSA) that is proven to have given harmfull Rx that was not indicated medically, can be scrapped and or fined.

On paper yes, but we've yet to hear of that happening or put forward as a process of action.

I am not aware of any Healthcare provider in SA that has ever been proven to be involved (and thus could be punished). In Europe the Dr's have been scrapped and jailed. Locally you get your stuff from your local Spiertier methinks.

One niggling question, why you, why did they single you out ?
is it the big guns, did you perhaps brag a little as to what you took ?
Why you ?

Is it not obvious...?

CAUTION: Pseudoephedrine is prohibited in-competition at a urinary concentration above the threshold of 150ng/mL (as of January 1, 2010). The threshold level has been established based on the intake of therapeutic doses of PSE, defined as a maximum daily dose of 240mg PSE taken either as:
4 daily administrations (one every 4-6 hours) of a 60mg pill (or 2x30mg pills), or
2 daily administrations (one every 12 hours) of a 120mg pill (extended release)

Although rare, it is possible that the established threshold level may be reached by some individuals taking therapeutic dosages, particularly 6-20 hours after the extended release pill. Therefore WADA advises that athletes stop taking PSE pills 24 hours before the in- competition period.

Unless you're downing a whole bottle of Medinite before a race, you are safe.
