Cycling SA condemns attack on MTB Team

· By Press Office · 19 comments

Cycling South Africa regrets to announce that there was an attack on the visiting Danish MTB Team at Voortrekker Monument in Gauteng yesterday, while preparing for this weekend’s STIHL XCO Cup Series race.

Albeit the area in which the event is taking place has perimeter game fence with security guards that do patrol the area, criminals will always endeavour to take the opportunity.

Swift action by the event organiser resulted in deployment of a police helicopter and one suspect was apprehended whilst still on the property. Additional security has been deployed for official training and race day.

The National Federation sharply condemns such violence or any related criminal activities. The athletes, although traumatised by the incident, remained unharmed. Cycling SA wishes the Danish team, and all of our athletes, every success for the weekend’s racing.

We appeal to all cyclists to remain vigilant at all times while cycling, and to be aware of riders within their groups at all times.

They have been targeting cyclist for MONTHS now and nothing was done.

I missed their outrage last week and all the weeks before when their own members got attacked.
