Entries for the 2016 Trans Baviaans 24 hr opened today!

· By Press Office · 1 comment

In just over an hour the entries for Event #1 sold out! ‘Because of the limit on entries, the demand has become so high, the only way to accommodate all the riders is to host a second event’, says Wikus Van Der Walt, Director of EcoBound. Just like last year, there will be 2 events on either 13 August or 20 August 2016.

Entries for Event #1 are now closed for 2016. BUT riders will still have a chance to get their hands on limited entries for the second event on 20 August 2016. The last entries for this will open again tomorrow at 08:00.

The ‘Toughest Single Stage MTB Event’ in the world has become so popular, the website was ‘overloaded’ by riders desperately trying to enter. This is a team event, consisting of 2, 3 or 4 cyclists per team, the concept is very different to that of an ordinary MTB race. ‘This has become a bucket list item for many riders and we can clearly see that, as it took only 8 hours last year for entries to sell out’, says Wikus.

The uniqueness of the event has attracted hardcore mountain bikers since 2004. There are no route markings, so the 400 teams (per event) need to navigate their way through the Baviaans Kloof, the largest Wildernis area in SA and now a world heritage site, to the surf Capital of South Africa, Jeffreys Bay, finishing in front of the main entrance of the Fountains Mall, all within 24 hours.

A new partnership with Cape Storm has everyone excited and riders can again expect specials from PowerBar and Extreme Lights as part of their entry.

Be sure not to miss out on one of South Africa’s premier iconic mountain biking events and be ready to grab a spot tomorrow morning!
