The first ever 3 day Fat bike event was staged on the pristine beaches of the Eastern Cape from the 19th to 21st Feb.
Starting inland at Nanaga the 70 riders descended onto the beaches of Woody Cape east of Port Elizabeth and navigated their way around the cliffs with the pressures of an incoming tide. Finishing at Kenton on Sea some 90km later on the banks of the Bushmans River made it all worthwhile . Day 2 and a 30knot South Westerly tail wind saw the riders fly down all the beaches of Port Alfred, Fish River and finally some 72 km later were blown into the awesome hotel of Mpekweni. The last day was adventure packed with the crossing of the mighty Keiskamma River on a Giant SUP ( Stand up paddle board) and then the local ski boat club ferrying the Fat Bikes across the Chalumna River and onto the finish at Kaysers Beach.A easier day at only 47km.
What made this event so unique was that Red Cherry Adventures supplied all the alloy Fat Cat Pro bikes so all the riders had to do was bring their cleats and off they went . They were picked up at airport , transferred to hotels , bussed to start and spoilt rotten for 3 days. On arriving at the Finish they were transferred to east London airport and the balance of riders back to PE… a real Hassle Free weekend.
Red Cherry now own the fleet so watch the press for Wild Coast , Skeleton coast and many other Fat Bike rides. If you want, they could organise a customised tour for you and your mates … check out www.fatattack.co.za
