“We are proud to announce that the FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic will be the first regional points event for GNC,” says Alexa Cunningham, Event Manager of the FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic. “The FNB Magalies Monster will adhere to the colours criteria for the region. Mountain bikers can accrue points for podium performances during the event and can be eligible for GNC Cross Country Marathon (XCM) colours, should they obtain the nine points required at carefully selected XCM races throughout the season. We are honoured that GNC has selected our event out of the many in the region and look forward to welcoming the new faces to the FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic.”

According to Pierre Nel, GNC Mountain Bike Commissioner, GNC is a well-established regional cycling body that ensures that cyclists in the region are offered the best opportunities to practice their sport. “We annually reward top performance, according to formally constituted criteria, with GNC Colours. For mountain biking we distinguish between Cross Country Olympic (XCO) and Cross Country Marathon (XCM) performance, awarding GNC colours to cyclists earning nine points throughout the season when achieving podium positions in predefined Cross Country Marathon races.”

“The FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic is a popular and well organised event, making it the ideal event to partner with GNC,” continues Nel. “Criteria needed to host a GNC Cross Country Marathon includes, among others: CSA sanctioning, compliance with UCI and CSA criteria regarding distance and duration, seeding, timing and route marking. The FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic will be the first event for our purpose. Events will take place until end November. Mountain bikers that would like to obtain their GNC Cross Country Marathon colours need to be members of Cycling SA and reside in Gauteng North.”
