A near perfect day awaited ultra-marathon riders on Saturday 19 May in Malmesbury. With no wind and dry terrain, it was a beautiful Autumn day in the Swartland for the tenth annual Amarider 100Miler and 50Miler presented by Bike Hub.

A last-minute entry got David George to ride the 160km on his dirt bike and taking the win in a time of 5 hours 37 minutes. Hendrik Kruger took second place with Bennie Viljoen in third.

In the ladies, it was Yolande de Villiers that came in first and 11th overall. Second was Marleen Lourens and then Simone van Aardt finished off the podium.

The event, presented by Bike Hub, also offers a 50Miler from the half-way mark at Delico near Riebeeck-Kasteel. A big field started for the 80km to Malmesbury and David Garrett took the win in the men and Anel Henn in the ladies.

To ride 160km or even 80km solo is a big personal achievement for most riders, and the scenery of the Swartland in Autumn did not disappoint.

The local Malmesbury Cycling Club raises funds through the event by taking control of the waterpoints and marshalling on the route.
