Kleinhans to defend his title at Amarider 100 Miler this Saturday

· By Press Office · 0 comments

Erik Kleinhans riding for Team Topek-Ergon, won the inaugural Amarider 100Miler in 2009 under extreme conditions, which forced more than 75% of entrants to abandon the race, 50% before the start. In 2016 he returned to take the title again, and this year he is back as firm favourite for his third Amarider 100 Miler. Adriaan Louw finished the 2016 race three minutes behind Kleinhans and is also back to try and topple the favourite.

The event, presented by Bike Hub, starts and finishes at the Malmesbury Showgrounds and circles the Swartland towards Riebeeck Kasteel where the 50Miler starts half-way, at Delico Butchery.

To ride 160km or even 80km solo is a big personal achievement for most riders, and Kleinhans commented that the 2009 medal is one that is close to his heart.

The longer distance starts at 7h30 at sunrise and the 50Miler at 9am. Both must finish with the long distance before the 17h30 cut-off in Malmesbury.

Friday registration is at Dirtopia Trail Centre on Delvera farm near Stellenbosch between 12h00 & 18h00. Dirtopia Café & bikeshop will be open later too. Note that no entries are available on race day.

Visit www.amarider.co.za/100miler2017 for locations of the spectator points and follow the live timing on www.trailtag.co.za with some checkpoints on the route.

The local Malmesbury Cycling Club raises funds through the event by taking control of the waterpoints and marshalling on the route. Amarider is a non-profit organisation working for mountain bike trail access and as well as liability and insurance support to clubs and groups managing trails systems around South Africa.
