Anti-doping rule violation for track cyclist

Cycling South Africa reports that Timothy Abbot has been found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation after an in-competition test conducted on 26 December 2015 confirmed the presence of Testosterone.

The SAIDS Independent Doping Hearing Panel imposed a period of ineligibility of 4 years, commencing on 26 December 2015. Mr Abbot is therefore suspended and prohibited from competing and administering in the sport of Cycling as well as in any other sport in South Africa and Internationally from 26 December 2015 until 25 December 2019.

Cycling South Africa respects the independence of the SAIDS process and will respect the outcome. Cycling SA further reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and will continue working with SAIDS in the promotion of a drug-free sport via its awareness and extensive testing programmes.

This poor guy couldnt get the same legal team that our "pros" do.

That's what makes this system so flawed!

That's 18 months ago!

Is this a first or second offence and why then dope at that
age just for a medal. Same cyclist set a SA record 4 months
later as Sa Track Champs.

So this only now gets imposed now after 1.5 years???

Pathetic that it takes so long to finalise !!!

As I understand it, it was because of the use of an off the shelf sport supplement

every doper has a sad story!

We should start a list of all the excuses so anyone who gets caught can just cut and paste their excuse for an appeal.

Ai Ai Ai. What the heck takes so long? The dude probably can't even remember the day he got tested it was so long ago.

The one with the word TEST in it

how and when they going to unbundle the results from Paarl race and subsequent SA champs in PE including the SA record.

Only pick up on this now from the Cycling SA website https://www.cyclings...ompetition-test

He races in the 55-59 category. Busted for testosterone. Difficult one to explain away!

But also interesting, as mentioned in the comments, test was done in-competition during December 2015.

Then he (Timothy Abbot) was selected for the 2016 Masters World Champs in May 2016? https://www.cyclings...-manchester-eng

Will try and search the champs' results to see if he participated in Machester in October 2016.
