Weather predictions not looking great at this moment. Looks like it might be a mud fest or tri-athlons instead if that much rain falls as predicted...

So all the now need for the Siraz race is storm winds, then they basically had all the extreme weather systems covered again this year for the w2w

Pure Savage, Oct 29 2018 10:58

So they have evacuated everyone from the race village to a school due to the risk of fires and the high winds. Hectic.

DieselnDust, Oct 30 2018 05:20

Race to start at 11am. No one allowed back in rave village till 10am. Hope the bikes are secured.
Evacuation was more to due to the smoke I hear. Fire was upwind of the camp

Slowbee, Oct 30 2018 07:54

did any of the overnight rain get to Grabouw? It bucketed in Somerset West (ok at least down this side of somerset west).

DieselnDust, Oct 30 2018 08:02

Rained pretty hard all night in Grabouw.

Slowbee, Oct 30 2018 08:44

so fires should be a bit better - but the riders have not had a good time ... wind, smoke, heat and rain ....and no sleep

Headshot, Oct 30 2018 08:46

Hardcore in the Cape ek se!

Wannabe, Oct 30 2018 02:23

No news?

What was the conditions like?

Heard that quite a lot of rain fell in the area.

Meezo, Oct 30 2018 02:25

Route shortened and started late, 40kms started at 11am

The Commuter, Oct 30 2018 03:19

Also believe today's stage was done purely on an optional basis due to the risky conditions on the trails.  Any riders not doing today's event can still ride tomorrow and finish formally.

LeoKnight, Oct 31 2018 09:17

So how was the riding yesterday for those that participated?  Must say I thought the weather was a challenge last year with the heat and wind and rain, but this year it just took it to another level it seems.

Hope today went much better and that all got to the end safely (including the bikes, as I wonder how many drivechains got eaten up in the mud yesterday)

DieselnDust, Nov 01 2018 06:52

XO1 chain went from 0.2% on Monday to 0.6% at post race check yesterday.

Only had 1600km on it!
