gummibear Posted May 30, 2012 Share I am changing a old road frame to flat bars for easier riding in traffic. What is the difference between 10 speed SLX mtb shifters and Shimano Tiagra road shifters? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Original/69502.jpg http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Original/80954.jpg pista

Ryinc Posted May 30, 2012 Share I would go with the tiagra if u plan to use road derailleurs. if u use the slx fd might work (although not perfect) rd will probably not work and u will need to buy mtb rd. You could also look at microshift flatbar shifters if u prepared to import

Tubehunter Posted May 31, 2012 Share I'm busy doing the exact same thing to a carbon Trek 5900. (The old US Postal team colours one). Shimano do a specific flatbar shifter that is compatible with other road groupo bits. I got some from a hubber here a couple of weeks ago ironically. They are the Shimano R550. Chain Reaction has them too. I just need some brake levers and might have to redo some of the cabling and I'll be good to go! Good luck with your build! Johan Bornman Posted May 31, 2012 Share I am changing a old road frame to flat bars for easier riding in traffic. What is the difference between 10 speed SLX mtb shifters and Shimano Tiagra road shifters? The left shifter on SLX will be 3X, whilst the Tiagra only 2X. The other side is kerzakely the same as far as the bike sees things. Tiagra is such excellent quality at such a ridiculous price, that it will remain a secret forever. Edited May 31, 2012 by Johan Bornman

Tubehunter Posted June 11, 2012 Share So much of pretty Gummi!!!!! Good job! Struggling to get the seatpost on my frame out to do some clean up. Looks like it has fused.....Need a new stem, brake levers and cabling for this and the gears, then the parts are mostly sorted.
