Wyatt Earp Posted September 18, 2012 Share Sup hubbers. I have noticed quite a few music lovers here. This thread is not to take away from the Song of the day thread. The aim of this thread. To post audio items you find desirable, lust after or perhaps even own. To post reference recordings you listen to, recordings of the highest quality also able to make the system sing. I see quite a few audio fanatics here.SchwynnSIR MaxxisZeabreSlick said something about a system. Fire away.

TheDoc Posted September 18, 2012 Share I am looking for a good/excellent quality LP by "The Gladiators", titled - "Trenchtown MixUp", released on the "Virgin" label in 1976. The CD is readily available, but the LP has eluded me so far.
VincentBikes Posted September 18, 2012 Share Many years ago when still a student I had the oppertunity to listen to this Phase Linear system. The speakers in the link was the same and the amplifiers etc was also the same just cannot remember which models but this was a once in a lifetime experience. Still have to find something today that will equil this not even Magnaplanar or Martin Logan can match this.http://www.phaselinearhistory.stereomanuals.com/andromeda.htm

DR ◣◢ Posted September 18, 2012 Share Fantastic reference disc to get is from Dali USA and aptly called "The Dali CD volume 1 – 2006" Really good reference disc to own. A little bit forgiving in the sense that it makes most systems sound amazing but still great to own. You haven't experienced the true "Hugh Masekela – Stimela" without a high end system gently whispering it into your ears. Another big favorite of mine is Rebecca Pidgeon. Incredible voice. Faark me. You can't call this **** the kids (read 94.7) play music. Its noise.
DR ◣◢ Posted September 18, 2012 Share Currently running DLS Ultimate series speakers and amplifiers in my car fed from an Alpine Status F#1 head unit. Very simple system at the moment compared to last years 10 channel stereo system I owned. House is Rotel RSP-1068 feeding a RB985 power amp. Powers my DLS T3 speakers in the lounge. Strictly not a reference stereo system but really really good. Lounge's layout is **** anyways so no use spending big on it now. Dream system is a pair of Martin Logan Summit X's powered by a DLS Amplifier One and CD One. Other option would be to power them by a little something built by Oom Schalk. Honkdonk Posted September 18, 2012 Share I am an Audiophile of the large scale format. Not suited for your lounge or stoep, but more a stadium, arena or green field.Beeeg speakers, lots of them. Very intelligent amplifiers and processing. Fibre optic cable distribution. Remote laser inclinometers.Wireless control surfaces and of course state of the art digital mixing desks. _C50_ Posted September 18, 2012 Share Have got a set of Bowers & Wilkins 602 S3's with a B&W ASW610 Sub connected to a Cambridge Audio Azur 640 Amplifier. Amp uses a toroidal transformer. Yamaha CD-600 CD player. It's by no means high-end but for my purpose it's awesome. When it comes to listening to music, it does the job beautifully. dev null Posted September 18, 2012 Share On my AV system I run with Sonor Audio speakers, but my AV amp was a serious miss. I won't ever buy Harman Kardon AV stuff again. But I am not so much an AV nut anyway, I prefer to spend time listening to my records: Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon and The WallU2 - The Joshua TreeThe Pixies - Doolittle Edited September 18, 2012 by Moridin

I have never owned any REAL high-end stuff, but used to have a fondness for big American speakers. My source was a Rega Planar with Goldring Eroica moving coil. Almost like SLX. Performed well enough without breaking the bank. First there were the Maggies. Glorious in many ways but could not go very loud, very hard to drive. Then came the KEF R/2. Not sure why i got this, think it was the hype surrounding it. Not bad at all until I heard some Polks.Duly followed by those Polk SRS. Some of my fondest memories lie with them. Sold them eventually to cover student debt. Then after some time there were some Thiels. Somehow they sounded better in the store. Never again. Took them back within a week.Replaced them with the TDL transmission lines. Beautiful but were stolen from my home. With insurance payout I got a big Boston sub and bookshelves. Little baby fingers meant that speakers should now be out of reach. Lightning wacked the bookshelves.Currently I have a few Jamo satelites, still using the Boston sub. Adequate for watching TV and movies. These days I listen to music on my 1st gen 512MB IPod shuffle. Somehow it makes headphones sound better than they are.
