Making a fender for your MTB

It's starting to rain here and I'm tired of getting mud in my eye :whistling: , so I did a search for fenders and got a number of templates. I'll be using the first one and cutting it out of 4mm plastic from a 20l container that I used for another project (the advantages of being a farmer, all the left over material form old projects, and I'm a bit of a DIY freak)

This last one had me a bit mystified, so I reread the page it came from;

Simply printout the below so the measurements match.

place template onto an old inner tube and cut out.

you'll also need 4 zip ties to secure the mudguard onto your forks.

think I got it wrong :blush:

Post your attempts here, I will do the same

Time taken about 45min including getting tools, finding the plastic, and scrubbing the fender.

Nice job, that plastic looks very thick. Try go to a plastic world or plastic shop, they should have thin sheets of plastic, alternatively get those thin plastic chopping mats, thats what i made the first few out of.

I like your way of doing things Bean :thumbup: , but since I'm a lazy city slicker (not really) I bought mine for R90 from Trail & Tar.

Glad your rain came. Cable ties are the new polluter at camp sites. Even worse than beer bottle tops.

I buy brightly coloured ones when overlanding - they are so much easier to see and not leave behind by mistake - unlike the black ones.

I pick mine up and take them with me, with all those of the others that I habitually pick up. We also have kiep kiep parade before we pitch camp and it is also the last thing we do before we leave.

I like that - and I'm going to teach my kids to call it that in future, we've just never had a word for it.
