Hi cyclists

We've had a drop out from the trial so there is space for one more participant. We are looking for a participant for this trial: http://essm.uct.ac.z...bohydrate-diet/ that meets the following criteria:

Male, mid to late 30s

Well trained and competitive

Eats a diet low in fat and high in carbs

Available for testing at the Sports Science Institute in Newlands, Cape Town

Available for testing from 21 July to 16 Aug.

If you meet the criteria and are interested in your physiology and substrate oxidation this trial could be for you. There is feedback and results for all the tests.

The feedback includes but is not limited to:

Peak power

VO2max

HRmax

Fat and carbohydrate oxidation rates

Muscle glycogen levels and rate of use (muscle biopsy)

Rate of carbohydrate production by the liver

Insulin resistance and glucose tolerance testing

Body fat %

Dietary analysis

There is R750 for participation. Please contact me if you are interested and want more details at wbschr002@myuct.ac.za

Thanks,

Chris

We still need one more participant...

Amongst other things, we are measuring:

Body fat %

Peak power and VO2max

Composition of diet (protein, fat and carbs mainly)

Watts, HR and VO2 at 55% of peak power

Carb and fat oxidation rates

Blood glucose, ketones, fatty acid and lactate

Muscle glycogen levels before and after a two hour ride

Insulin resistance and glucose tolerance

There will be detailed feedback for all tests.

I am a girl.

We're in the late stages of testing and are trying to match high-carbers to existing low carb participants. That is why the selection criteria is quite specific.

I've already done it 6 years ago, High carbs trump High Protein Fat diet.

Trumps in terms of? Are you keen to lend your high-carb skills to the trial? There is no intervention, we are interested in how your body functions as a high-carb athlete.
