Stellenbosch Cycle Tour accident involving Corsa

Hey guys. Congrats to those who got to finish in today's heat. Sadly, my father in laws race was abruptly ended by, what seems to be, an impatient Corsa driver who overtook a slow moving truck on the inside and subsequently rode blindly towards a group of cyclists, taking my father in law out as he was on the outside of the group.

We are looking for any eyewitnesses who could help corroborate what actually happened as it seems the driver is making it out as if he wasn't at fault.

Sorry to hear about you father in law's accident. I started in 3D and passed the accident with the paramedics on site already. I did not witness the accident but can comment that the cyclists were crossing the solid median at many times especially in the first 50kms. This made it very difficult for motorists to overtake safely. There was also very very few motorbike marshalls on the road for such a big race. Hope your father in law recovers soon.

Have you tried contacting the organisers and requesting if they could send out an email looking for anyone that witnessed the accident?

Hope your father-in-law recovers quickly!

UPDATE:

Thanks for all the well wishes, my dad is doing OK under the circumstances. He's got an appointment with a Neurologist tomorrow, and until then he has to keep fairly still.

We have managed to track down an eyewitness who saw it all. While my dad was lying in the road he took a photo, in which was a cyclist standing by the car to prevent a possible quick getaway - got his details from the organizers with his race number.

The driver was definitely at fault and my dad will probably be opening a case against him.
