New singletrack in Lebanon, Grabouw

Howzit Hubbers!

A quick update on iRide Africa's trail building progress at Lebanon.

As some of you may know, Harry and I have been given permission to go and improve the trail network and we've been traveling out there and doing as much trailwork as we can between work stints (My skills clinic class schedule has suffered terrible, so sorry to those who I've had to turn away).

We've designed new signage and Action Frames has kindly sponsored the material and printing costs (please support them if you need any display products made-they are mountain bikers!) but that signage will only go up in a month or so.

So far we have added about 4km of trail to the network and without signage we are worried that the trails won't bed in and stay clear if riders don't start using them!

So our suggestion/plea is to please download a VERY current map from our website here (we'll update it every time we add a new trail), plan a  day to go riding/running and go and find these trails and give us your feedback while bedding in the trails!

Obviously some of the trails won't link up perfectly yet so we want you to find your own way and connect the trails. We have the rad little problem of too much space and potential and not enough time/manpower to get the trails all built at the same time!

The trails start at Oak Lane cottages/ Old MacDaddy and permits only cost R30!

We've identified a few problems with the network and are trying to resolve them so more people want to ride there. What we are trying to fix is the following;

1) More singletrack

2) More variety to suit all types of riders

3) Better signage so people won't get lost

4) Improve start/end of loops to be exciting (proving to be difficult but long term goal)

5) More singletrack!

So please, go and book yourself/family a weekend away and go and ride Lebanon trails and help us out while you are about it!

We are planning a weekend of trail building for those that want to help out but most likely only in Sept/October. Lebanon MTB will kindly offer free accommodation, we'll supply free CBC beer and will have marked out the trails to build and the thinking is we get a posse of mtbers out there, do some serious trail building, and have a braai and social get together while we're doing so. We'll keep you in the loop with that one as we have at least 12km more trail to add there before we'll be happy ourselves!

Lekker! In my opinion this is the most underrated trail in the western Cape.

I'm still seeing unicorns and rainbows from my ride there on Tuesday.

Here are some pics of what we've been getting up to! No big features but we're definitely adding in some more technical features to keep the experienced riders keen!

Awesome!  I've always loved Lebanon - one of my favourite spots to ride.  It feels more raw than the rest of the Elgin / Grabouw trails, and I love it all the more for it.

Our thoughts as well. It feels much more like you 'are in nature' than Oak Valley & Paul Cluver and the trails that are there already have great flow! Just needing a few more options and some more technical riding added in

I rode the red loop with my wife yesterday - she is on school holiday leave so we took a gap. I lost rode there 10 years ago and it was great to be back.

The new stuff Dan has built is great - some tech climbs and tech descents  - nothing over built and good flow.

As he said, it needs to be ridden in a bit so get out there and ride it peeps.
