T-Bob Posted May 3, 2017 Share so there have been a couple of these on the scene overseas and I thought they were a retro novelty item for people who like to ride in plaid shirts and jeans... but no. It's not just little brands like hunter who are pushing them. Enduro mag have just released a (serious) article titled 'best MTB hip pack money can buy' with fanny packs hip packs from Bontrager, Camelbak, Evoc, Osprey and more. I was expecting fake moustaches and pink lycra but some how, apart from looking just awful, they kinda make a bit of sense. Having seen the horror of fanny packs in the 90's (and only last year in Russian black sea beach resorts teamed with gold sneakers and high cut budgie smugglers) that make me feel weird inside. http://enduro-mtb.com/en/best-mtb-hip-pack-you-can-buy/ Are people actually rocking these and if so how are they and do you also wear crocs are they good? It keeps all my hooks etc My bother in law bring his what he fishes as well and I must admit it's pretty good. Unfortunately it's a neoprene pink and yellow affair straight out of the 80's that must frankly scare the life of any fish that come close! For sure, I'm actually interested in seeing how good they are for riding vs a pack vs whatever else. Having hydration bladder in them seems like it's going to be awkward. I usually ride with a pack and have recently been thinking I don't need a huge amount of stuff and not a big bladder as in my Mule. I generally carry it for water, spares / tools and for my pads. Having been eyeing up some Leatt light weight pad that you can pedal in all the time I was debating the need to keep the pack. I don't have jerseys with pockets (and stuff moving about give me the ache) and I don't run water bottles / holders. So unfortunately, as weird as they look, this might be a decent answer. IF I used it pr perly!!Took my phone out on Saturday , nearing the end of a ride and took a tumble into a river without replacing the phone... phone subsequently died...A ride's not over till it's over..... anyway I digress, I think there's a place for them.. Works a treat when you don't want to lug around a full pack, or are going on a shorter ride and still need your tools / phone / cash / keys etc. Bounces around a bit if you forget to tighten up the strap once you've drained a bit of the water, but that's not an issue for me, really. Raydek Posted May 3, 2017 Share I've been riding with this for about a month now.. Is nice for a ride that is just too long for one bottle of water and too short for a pack. Also, I have started wearing my chinbar a bit more often after seeing one too many incidents of other riders injuries, so with this I can carry it without it being attached to the lid for the up ride without a pack.
