i bought the Roval CLX 50 Rims i bought in June 2017; at first i left the rim tape as it was so nicely done that i did not want to remove them in favour of the Roval version of the Veloplugs.

but as @waynen iis buying a set and showing his build off i started to feel the itch to see what mine would/could come to.

So i went ahead and stripped my wheels and fitted the Roval Spoke hole plugs.

at the same time i figured i would fit the super light Continental Race 28 Supersonic tubes at a claimed weight of 50grams a tube!

just so no one rashes me. i got these tubes free with some tires i bought.

to date i have not used them as i felt they might be to thin. only time and tests will tell.

here is the outcome:

old tires weight - hefty  at over 109 grams a pop

New tires - a scary 54grams per tire, nervous about these being so thin!

also had to be very very careful fitting these as a pitch would be game over.

will also write back on puncture protection. i have not had a single puncture with the previous tubes

the lovely rim tape

and its weight 23-24 grams each

the Roval version of Veloplugs 5 and 6 grams per wheel respectively (less needed in the front wheel)

i managed to get the rim tape off without damaging it.

i used a small flat screwdriver and levered it off.

its not tape at all. rather a tight fitting wrap.

i'm not sure how well it will go back on though. lining up the holes, and if its stretched. only time will tell.

here are the fitted plugs. the seem to fit slightly proud due to the rubber that is meant to seal for tubeless tires. i'm slightly worried about them and the thin tire.

finally i fitted the new tubes and put the original tire back on.

here are the original weights.

In Conclusion:

The Roval VeloPlugs saved me a massive 36 grams!!

and the Tires a more respectable 110 grams - but at what cost...

a total of 146 grams of rotational weight lost.

not bad provided i don't get punctures!

i could loose an additional 32 grams by changing to tubolito tubes.

I love weight weenies.

Surely a carbon fibre saddle bag will save you some more grams. Or get one of those Innova industries*, integrated saddle bag, light and Varia radar.

Lol!

i'm a dysfunctional OCD and i'm having fun!

Are those plugs intended to drop weight, or are they for tubeless conversion.? (and hopefully dropping some weight that way)

Roval plugs(like i have) are for both weight loss and tubeless conversion.

Veloplugs are purely for weight as they do not have a rubber o-ring.
