Bike Hub weight loss challenge 2018

2017 has been my year of failed weight management and exercise consistency. I am heavier than I have ever been and terribly unfit at the moment. Too many excuses taking precedence in my priorities.

I am determined to make 2018 different. Is anyone keen to perhaps join the challenge to lose weight, ride / exercise more, drink less and become generally healthier. I would be keen to post regular updates, perhaps set up a group on MyFitnessPal and work together to encourage each other in our endeavour.

Anyone keen to join?

Mod edit:

here is the link to the challenge started by the winner of the 2017 weight loss challenge The New Me (aka tedibear):

So its time to start the Challenge again

I have Stolen the Spreadsheet from Myles and Added a few things

I am keen to join.

My year thus far was crap. My workload tripled (was in an agricultural business with the in-laws, father-in-law passed away in January), rode a handful of times, and if I had time, I was dead-tired.

This year I must make more time for myself. For my own sanity... I am the heaviest I have ever been. Currently coming in at 84kg, and that is on a 1,73m frame (not so lekker dikgat). I used to be around 70-72kg. I need to drop at least 10kg.

The best is I have started working on a 1,3km singletrack loop on the smallholding I am on, but have not finished it. The story of my life thus far - starting something and not finishing it.

I did a 45min cardio session on the elliptical yesterday. The first cardio in months. This has just confirmed to me what a lazy fat piece of crap I am at the moment.

I am also keen, my biggest excuse is having an excuse for not looking after my health( drinking to much , eating to much and just plain lazy). Have all the necesarry bells and whistles(equipment) to be in top form. I am also about 10kg heavier than my ideal weight of 98kg. So lets take hands in this adventure !!

Also in. Been a steady decline for me from 2012. Went from 98kg @ 10% body fat (used to gym lots), down to 82kg when I first picked up cycling again at varsity (cycled, swam and did triathlon at school before I picked up gyiming at varsity), then injured my back in 2012 and have slowly picked up weight since then. Currently sitting at 107kg.

I am reasonably fit - can do 100km on an mtb comfortably, finished Berg and Bush in a decent time this year, but my weight keeps steadily increasing due to horrible eating habbits and inconsistent training throughout the week.

Goal for 2018 is to drop to 85kg (I am 1.78m), and be able to finish in B batch Wines to Whales. I also entered for the half 36One - reason for this is that I know there is no way I can complete it at my current weight - forcing me to lose it! My love for mtb lies in Enduro and Gravity oriented riding, but I also love endurance rides, so my focus will be on endurance and fitness this year, although I am sure it can only have a positive effect on my Enduro/Gravity skills seeing as jumping with and throwing around 85kg will be a hell of alot easier than 107kg!

My biggest challenge will be to eat well, and to train consistently during the week, luckily getting on the bike over the weekends is not a challenge for me - I look forward to that the whole week! I am moving to Somerset West now, so hopefully the surroundings will give me a fresh start I need to get out of this slump.

Good luck to all.

I’m starting the “ every other day diet “ on 14 February ( Ash Wednesday ) until Easter, for Lent......I like the idea of on and off days and will like to see what happens after the 40 days...... I might adopt it as a new lifestyle even

Good on you guy's. Will be following the discussion.

First goal should be: No matter what I am going to enjoy it. That has helped me to be less hard on myself and somehow I am still proud of my own achievements this year even though it fell short of my expectations but so what.

Enjoy it!!!!
