Current state of SAPO deliveries?

I know this has probably been thrashed to death, but does anyone know what the current time frame is for international deliveries that have the misfortune of moving via the SA Post Office?

I ordered some saddles from a UK based company on 15 May. The parcel left Sweden for SA on the 21st.

As I understand it then must be scanned at the Johannesburg International Mail Centre before local tracking is available. This appears to be where things go tits up.

The boys and girls at SAPO are about as sharp as marbles. They do not reply to emails; the SMS query option responds to say that the item is not yet captured in the system (l know that); and the call centre (yes they answer if you can spend 30 minutes on hold) provides the same info with the added euphemism that there is a "backlog" at the JIMC.

Please try again later....

Btw, I have advised the selling company, who only offered a tracked mail delivery to SA, and they will in future bypass our stellar state entity and only offer a courier option to SA.

Another thing that is compounding the standard pathetic service from SAPO is that they were having a strike the past couple of weeks and the standard backlog has grown exponentially.

I am also waiting for two international shipments and all we can do is wait some more.

Things should hopefully start picking up now.  Seems that the strike ended Wednesday and they said it should take 20day to work through the backlog

I have been half following a call out on Business Day regarding Mark Barnes, nominally the CEO of the anarchy that is SAPO. It seems he offered his email address to those with delivery problems but never responds. Ho hum. Tells me one has to spring for a courier.

I've got 6 parcels coming from China that haven't moved on tracking since they left China. You'd get a status change at least once a week, some of the parcels have been dormant for over a month.

That stuffs it up for those who are willing to wait and can't afford the courier fees.

Have never lost a parcel of many over many years.

With SAPO you have to be prepared to wait and now with the post office strike you can add on 4 weeks on top of what it would have been

I must be very lucky then, never had a real SA post services issue

Still waiting for the jacket my mom posted to me for my birthday 15 years ago

Boksburg to Zug

Suppose it’s possible someone on the Swiss side took a liking to an Edgar’s jacket

Terrible, lost 2 separate packages.

I have three packages, about R10k, LOST in the system during the previous strike.

SpeedServices with tracking number and all .... it is just plain GONE ....

And I am the one that SENT those packages.  Took it on the chin and resent via courier to keep my clients happy.

I DONT use PostOffice any more !!

The irony of it all .... the couriers are CHEAPER than SpeedServices !!

Sorry, but it's cheaper to pay the courier fees than to pay for 2 saddles and not get them!
