Noon to Moon - Sabie

Some friends in our little 'adventure club' recently moved to Lydenburg, so we thought we could go see if this event is still around. (I've done it the last time in 2006 and 2 others in our circle in 2008)

Some observations:

- It was very difficult to get information online. In the end, phoning/emailing the organiser was the way to go. Due to lack of online facilities we ended up entering on the day.

- 10 years ago the transition zone was still at Castle Rock. I loved the 'new' start at Merry Pebbles, the swimming pool just next to the race village, the restaurant just next door to that.  We camped and didn't want to set up another temporary station at the transition so it was a bit further to get to our chill zone between laps. Lots of shade in the camping area.

- 10 years ago it was from 12 to 10pm. This allowed for a slightly later leave from Johannesburg the Saturday morning, and more nightriding. It's a pity there was less nightriding this year - it's the best part of the race. But it did allow us a longer catch-up time around the fire after the event.

- The singletrack is great! Stunning route and variety with enough place to pass and some forest-parts to cool down in the heat of the day. Haven't taken my bicycle to Sabie for far too long. Will definitely go camp and ride there some time next year.

- Perfect weather. I remember some wet years and expensive bike bills.

Who else were there the weekend?

And anyone know if there is any chance whatsoever that Sabie Shenanigans or something similar will ever be revived?
