Anyone has volunteered

I'm trying to assure my entry, so the volunteer option looks like a safe bet. Apart from traveling there twice, but is the price to pay, when you are in the other side of the world.

Or just buy an entry of the hub once it creeps closer and people start bailing cause they didn’t put in the training!

The only way I have ever done it! Sani, W2W etc, everybody panics so about getting on the list. But there is always that guy who was too lazy to train and is probably into eBiking, who will be selling a week or two before.

Sorry, but these race organizers make millions of Rands, and now you have to pay to volunteer to help them....I dont get it...

I could never get my head around that one, that people would pay the organisers to do crappy work at the Epic - in principal it is just wrong on so many levels

Why do you say wrong Skub's? When we did our game counts and environmental work, people paid plenty of dollars $$$$$(!!!!) to live in a horrible tent, eat dodgy food and walk around everyday doing damn hard work as a "volunteer" for 2 weeks.

But I do agree with you, something does not sit well about paying to get your name on a list and then still have to give up ten days to work and then pay lots more to get the entry. Maybe the payment is to cover your accommodation and food as supplied by the epic, or do you have to induce those costs.

My wife did it.She found it hard work but enjoyed it and got her guaranteed team entry.

This the old format though which meant they were always on the move

Sounds like people were paying $$$$$ for a good cause and I'm sure everybody understood that!  Cape Epic is 100% for profit and owned by a fairly ruthless company that does plenty to protect their own business interests.  They shouldn't be getting volunteers for free, never mind taking payment for the privilege.

Plenty of races organizers don't make any money and do this for the love of the sport/charity - somehow I wouldn't mind them doing this kind of thing.  Not the case for Epic and Ironman.
