Hello Everyone

I am looking for 2 people to form a committee for a NPO, I already have one other person of the three required to Register a Non Profit Organization.

I have been operating on a Voluntary basis since February 2004.

Raising funds for Old Age Homes through holding raffles for each project.

I wish to take this to the next level and Register for a Non Profit Organization.

It's likely to be easier to channel your charitable activities through an existing registered NPO with PBO status. Just to start with, this is going to avoid the need for the annual CIPC returns and the engagement of accountants, preparation of financial statements and so forth.

Plus 1. Running an NPO is difficult, rather partner with existing organisations. The older persons act will probably kick in as well. There are over 201 000 registered NPOs in SA. Many are closing down or scaling down.

Btw, registering and training NPO's is my job.

If you a Voluntary Association registered as NPO you need annually submit a narrative and AFS drawn up by an Accounting officer.

When you look for office bearers make sure they have diverse skills and more importantly the time. Read up alot on pbo/18A, independent code, older persons act,CSI trends for starters. Then if you do decide, then you would have made an informed decisions.Raffles also brings in the Lottery legislation

All the best

Hello MudLark

That is how I have been running things all the time as a Volunteer.

I have found that Companies do not wish to get involved when they hear that I am operating through a Old Age Homes and not being registered myself.

I find that hampers my fundraising efforts.

Thank You for your reply
