JD could barely hold Stuyven's wheel and that's how that little gap opened just that little that let Sagan in.. JD was just not strong enough yesterday..have a look at the whole sprint.. he couldn't stay on Sagan's wheel either... and let a gap even before Sagan started his sprint .. vivian had to take the short cut over the rougher cobbles to get around JD who was holding him up. Degenkold was actually dangerously close to headbutting Sagan, so an appeal might not have worked out for him. All we want is consistency, so if that is deemed legal in this race I hope we don't see penalties in the future for similar physicality. Problem is when someone takes a tumble, it is then when they are forced to act because of the public pressure, much like soccer. At least we won't see dives in cycling, that could be career ending. In a couple of weeks time in France we will surely have more sprinting incidents and you can be sure that we will not see consistency if you look at the history of penalties there. Johnny D did not appeal but he complained afterwards that he had to fight with Sagan for his own teammate’s wheel and that he thinks it was a little bit over the limit.
