Super Sywurm Posted July 5, 2019 Share Hi I am thinking about buying this bike, with the shock upgraded to a Monarch or Delux and the fork upgraded to a Reba. Thoughts about this bike? https://silverbacklab.com/product/stratos-al5/
Dexter-morgan Posted July 5, 2019 Share Nothing wrong with Silverback, always good value for money but I could not fing what gearset comes with it, also check out Titan Skrim comp.

thebob Posted July 5, 2019 Share Looks like decent spec for the price. Nothing wrong with the shock. Fork is quite flexy, but if you are not hammering it every ride, it is more than adequate. I'd look at better tyres or a dropper to upgrade first. Scott Spark 960 is a bit more, but has NX Eagle a dropper and the better tyres as well as more suspension travel if you are looking at options Super Sywurm

I am actually happy with the Crossmark tyres, I am using it at the moment.
thebob Posted July 5, 2019 Share I had those tyres on one bike, never again! Had zero grip for cornering and I saw my gat a couple times with them!. As a rear tyre they probably are not too bad of you want something that rolls quickly. Up front I'd definitely want something a bit grippier. Maxxis Ikon, Maxxis Forekaster or Continental X-Kings would be my choice, though it depends on your riding style and the conditions you encounter) Edited July 5, 2019 by the_bob

The other tyre I want to try is actually the Ikon.

nox1111 Posted July 5, 2019 Share Ito value - you won't beat the Stratos AL5 for bang for your bucks. That is the identical frame used on the AL1 - the top end Alloy machine that costs around R40k. This has new school geometry (very similar to the Stratos SBC bikes) and fit for purpose parts. It is internal dropper post ready and if you're not going to be rallying enduro stages, there's nothing wrong with that fork. The Skyrim is not even close to the same type of bike... different categories Bos, Hairy and BikeisLife

Spafsack Posted July 17, 2019 Share Also looking at this for my wife in a small. Love the flat tube look. Do you think it's weight at 14.8 is fine? Her current hardtail is 12.8kg.

Her current hardtail is 12.8kg.I don't have a problem with the weight. I ordered my bike from Bike Addict with a upgraded fork. The fork (Reba) will make the bike +-500-700 grams lighter. Spafsack Posted July 17, 2019 Share Hey Super, this makes me super excited lol. I hear you, a different fork will reduce weight, but as you said, the current weight is not really an issue. So noob question, can you lock both front and rear from the bars, i dont know much about dual sus. I assume you got to levers for locking front or rear out?
