ENTRIES OPEN FOR A NEW-LOOK MEDIHELP STELLENBOSCH CYCLE TOUR

The Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour returns to its roots on Sunday 19 January 2020 with an exciting 97 km course that takes place in the Cape Winelands’ spectacular scenery. Sponsored by Medihelp Medical Aid and hosted by the Pedal Power Association (PPA), the tour caters for both novice and experienced cyclists. The event will once again start at Stellenbosch High School and cements its status as a premier seeding event for the 2020 Cape Town Cycle Tour.

The route

Incorporating 1 191 m of climbing, the course gets straight into the swing of things and takes you over the beautiful Helshoogte Pass through Pniel and towards Franschhoek until you get the Wemmershoek turnoff about 21 km into your ride. This will be the last stretch until you reach your first waterpoint at 30,5 km in front of Pearl Valley Golf Estate. From there you will cycle towards Paarl and at 36,8 km you will turn right onto Lustigan Road/Drakenstein Road. You will stay on Lustigan for a short distance before turning right into Denneboom and Sonstraal roads at 39,9 km.

The second refreshment station will be at the 55,1 km mark shortly after Wellington graveyard – make sure to rehydrate as your next waterpoint is on the R44 opposite Windmeul Winery at the 63,5 km mark. You will be welcomed into Klapmuts with another waterpoint at 79,8 km from where your final journey back to the venue will commence.

With only 9 km to go, the last push is in sight once you hit the Medihelp waterpoint at Knorhoek – grab a banana and have some Coke for the final stretch. The finish will be on the Helshoogte road before Idas Valley and a neutral zone will take you back to the venue, where you will receive your well-deserved medal and Coke. Take your bike to the secure bike park while you relax and enjoy the hospitality on offer.

Food and entertainment

Seattle Coffee will be there for your caffeine fix and there will be a wide variety of food and drink stalls. Kids entertainment will allow the little ones to have some fun whilst mom and dad enjoy the live entertainment on offer.

Won't be surprised if venue change is in Wellington at Hugenoot high

Probably.

Stellenbosch rid itself of many sports events. Stellebosch Cycle Tour and MTB, One Tonner, Medalion even running events such as Gino's night race, Jonkershoek half marathon, Total Sports Ladies race.

I think the only event still taking place in Stellenbosch is the Winelands marathon - not sure for how long that will be the case.

We are very excited to announce that Pedal Power Association will take over the organisational duties of the Medihelp Stellenbosh Cycle Tour in 2020. We will keep the racing aspect of the event with little changes. The event will move back to Stellenbosch High School and will follow a similar route to the old one.

probably the last 2020 CTCT seeding event, that always guarantees some support

If this year is anything to go by, then any PPA event will still give you seeding, and even a boosted seeding.. Tour de PPA was last one this year ....

Wasn't that only for PPA members or something? But yes, you can never be sure..

Beta usually low for this race, not the best seeding event if you want a seeding at the sharp end for the CTCT

Tour de PPA is the last seeding event for non PPA members.

PPA members get  seeding adjustedup to the 99er

2019 was different.   No idea was 2020 will be like

As of 1 January 2019, we will take all PPA member¹s results and run a

parallel seeding system for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. This has no

influence on your regular seeding.

"With this benefit having only started in 2019, we won¹t apply it

retroactively, the Sportive 1,2 and Tour de PPA¹s results will be used to

boost 2019 Cycle Tour seeding."

true, as the PPA makes it up as they go along. But I'd expect more of the same as in the past many people skipped the 99er. Now they know its included in the seeding run more will enter to ensure those one shot wonders are kept in their place

You still get the oke on a 26" MTB in flat shoes and a gun run T shirt in the $ start after buying someones entry and not subbing it. That poor oke gets passed by about 14000 people on the day.
