sierrrd Posted November 14, 2019 Share No, just getting the information from the local neighbourhood FB group. A mix of hateful comments about riders in general and some people wishing the rider well. Not sure yet whether it is just one or multiple riders. The impact on the bakkie, which looks like a City utility car shows that this was a shitshow. If it is parked in the direction it was going. Hatefull comments ? FFS, I was riding in the area this morning thinking I was smarter than the wind, damn people are inconsiderate in peak hours... obviously mainly taxis and buses who love to overtake you and stop right in front of you, but also other cyclists that stand right in the way forcing you to ride around them (on the actual road)... it was the jungle out there... Hopefully the rider(s) is/are okay :'( Edited November 14, 2019 by Jbr Bonus, Dirkitech and DJR
sierrrd Posted November 14, 2019 Share I think the reason why a lot of people in Melkbos are annoyed is because some okes are riding on the road instead of the cycle path when going down beach road. That, and because people are simply being dicks. Can imagine it was hard out there this morning. Aren't you shitscared on R27 though? I was there last week first time in a while and that humming from trucks behind me buzzes me. Capricorn and DJR
tinmug Posted November 14, 2019 Share I'm ****-scared of the R27 when in a car. Hope the cyclist is okay. Helicopter not a good sign. Drove north through that stretch early Sunday morning (1-ish?) and encountered a CCT-numberplate car (what is that? Metro Police? Municipality?) acting highly inebriated: jagged movements all over the road (including into oncoming traffic). Beyond the Melkbos turnoff this person slowed down to 50-something km/h. When I passed him/her I was met with high beam roasting my retinas. Made me think of that photo pf law enforcement in CT parking in the cycling lane ... who do you call to report this behaviour? Get a mountain/gravel bike: it's safer off the black stuff.

I actually noticed the helicopter flying south whilst I was on the cycle path heading towards Melkbos.Whilst some motorists do not treat cyclists well, the R27 is normally okay as there is a nice broad yellow lane. But vehicles use this lane as the road has become a rat run, with high speeds and lots of heavy trucks. I used to use it a lot before the cycle lane was opened.I would second the earlier comment regarding cyclist behaviour. The number of times, on the cycle path, I have had guys ride on the wrong side of the path directly head on at me and refuse to move over to the correct side, then curse me is ridiculous. No most of the time I use the cycling lane between blouberg and melkboss rather than the R27, but as soon as the lane finishes you are back in the jungle... would be nice if there was a curb separating cycling lane and road the whole time, then at least taxis/buses wouldn't stop on it forcing us to go around them on the road I truly pray the cyclist is okay. Should we talk about the people walking their dogs using 100% of the lane and then being mad at you when you want to pass them ? Pure Savage Posted November 14, 2019 Share Cyclist was in the yellow lane at the time, hit by a car then thrown into road where was hit by another car. Hoping for the best. Rider is part of my folks club and ride together often. DJR
