Duane_Bosch Posted November 19, 2019 Share My 2c If you're looking to buy shoes on a budget go to Bridge Cycles. The stuff they have might not be the latest and greatest but they have a LOT of stock. They seem to buy all of the "non current" stuff from Omnico (Giro) My other half bought a pair of very nice Giro roadie shoes for R1400. Yes they aren't boa ones but they have a ratchet adjuster. from what I can tell most gyms seem to run MTB shimano spd systems on their bikes but it's best to ask. Long Wheel Base Posted November 19, 2019 Share The watt/spinning bikes at the gyms have pedals that take the most common shimano mtb cleat. So unless you want to go LOOK or something that uses a different cleat then you will be sorted.

Furbz Posted November 19, 2019 Share any apparel must pass one simple test.is it comfortable enough for you to forget about them when wearing them - if it passes that test then its a winner slickjay007, BigDL, Vetplant and 2 others
Duane_Bosch Posted November 19, 2019 Share Buying shoes online is a risk IMO. Yes you'd need to buy cleats. you can get non original shimano (I think they are ryder) for around R100 at any respectable bike shop. or you could buy a set of pedals which will come with cleats which you're going to do anyway seeing as you are buying a bike soon. Just my opinion again. For spinning/wattbike sessions you'll want to position the cleat as close to the heel as possible. In those sessions you're doing a lot of standing and interval type stuff and I've found this cleat position best fot that type of work. Once again. just an opinion. Martin PJ Posted November 19, 2019 Share Do not buy cheap MTB shoes. Make sure they fit, my 2 cents. Good doesn't have to break the bank, I bought Gaerne from Solomons, they really are great, seen them selling the exact same shoe for R800. slickjay007 Posted November 19, 2019 Share Just on the Fizik shoes, they very well made and super comfortable but if you have wide feet then stay clear. I went down the same road as you recently and settled for Louis Garneau. They really fit well and after having a few other pairs, they pretty durable. https://www.buycycle.co.za/shop-by-brand/j-l/louis-garneau/louis-garneau-granite-ii-boa-system/ oh and possibly in your price range. Just one thing, try a few pairs on as the sizing in most MTB shoes brands differs slightly. Edited November 19, 2019 by slickjay007
ValeYellow Posted November 19, 2019 Share couldn't agree more with the comments above - its risky buying shoes online without trying them on first. I personally made this mistake. If you have even a slightly broad foot, you may run into issues with SIDI as they are a pretty narrow shoe. Best is to go and try them on before purchasing. +1 on the Spez shoes. maqsmaqs Posted November 19, 2019 Share thanks guysi have a narrow foot and generally stick to size 8i work for sports company so have plenty of shoes from Adi,Nike,Asics etc so have always gotten away with size 8 across the board the benefit with online is that i can reduce the price by over R1000 rand after the discount so budget wise it makes sense i hear what everyone says but 2500 upwards is a bit of a stretch without lowering the price Duane_Bosch

Thomo Posted December 11, 2019 Share There's not much differentiating the big brand names at various price levels.Fizik, Sidi, Specialized, Giro etc all make good shoes. But not all good shoes are good for all people. Dicky DQ
