Cape Town Gravity Riding

Chip

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow gravity fanatics,

I am coming down to Cape Town on holiday from next week, I will be staying in De Wijnlanden. I am looking for some suggestions on where to get some good gravity orientated riding in, I know the you guys have the best trails.

Would be great to join a group ride if there are any happening.

Just a note, my fitness is not great at the moment.

Cheers,

Dale

hey Dale, you'll have 2 excellent options within 30 min of you. Jonkershoek and Helderberg. There was recently a shuttle day at Helderberg, but not gonna be another one for a while. Jonkers trails are easier to get up to (the hill at Helderberg is long and not so friendly) but both options have excellent trails for all skill and gnar levels.

Jonkers trails have more choice in terms of style of trail, from slow tech to fast and flowy, so that's where I'd go first. You could honestly spend upwards of 3 days there and not run out of stuff to ride, depending on your fitness level. 1500m plus climbing in a day and that's only 4 full trails done from top to bottom.....

Yeah, pretty much as Myles said. Helderberg is about a 15mins drive from de Wijnlanden - pretty much my go to spot. Drop me a PM if you want me to show you around one day - I am going to be around over December and will be at either Helderberg or Jonkershoek most mornings.

The trails in Stellies (Eden, Mont Marie, and G-Spot) is also worth doing on a day you have heavy and tired legs and don't want to climb quite as much.

If you are keen on a slightly more pedaly and less gravity focused day make a trip out to Paul Cluver and Oak Valley - manicured, and not too techy - but seriously fun, and awesome scenery to soak up.

PS: Pack your climbing legs.

You have omitted to mention Tokai. Naughty Myles....

Dale, come to the Southern Suburbs and ride on slopes of Constantiaberg. We have a DH line consisting of 5 sections starting with a double black and running to around 2 km in length. Then there are the Snake Trails, starting with a black ane ending up as a blue trail - that's about 1.85 km. There are a few other fun gravity tracks and a completely new blue graded descending track about to be opened that will be a ton of fun...

Jonkers, Helderberg, Tokai, G-spot/Eden... just reading all those names make me want to take a week off and just ride !

I would add ContermansKloef if you have chance to come this way, its also pretty cool and the black lines can be challenging !

????

Would definitely hit Tokai as well, those were just the closest to where he was staying.

Edit: you may actually get more DH trail ridden per km overall at Tokai, come to think of it.
