Francois Smith Posted January 26, 2020 Share Since I only use wax based lubricants for my MTB chain, I was wondering if immersing the chain in boiling water will assist in cleaning it? The melting point of wax is below the boiling point of water, therefore the lube should "melt" and lift from the chain together with the gunk stuck in it? Dont think boiling water should in any way be a problem for a steel chain? Any-one else who have tried this or can tell me why it cannot work? Any-one else who have tried this or can tell me why it cannot work?I used to use hot water and a splash of sunlight liquid, chuck the chain in an old marg tub or something with a lid (don't use boiling water here!).shake it around..clean it up..rinse it off..let it dry...wipe it down...lube it up... Any-one else who have tried this or can tell me why it cannot work?Yes it assist - I dump my dismantled cluster sprockets in hot water + degreaser and then wipe it clean with kitchen paper towel much easier. Butterbean Posted January 27, 2020 Share Ya we got a little ultrasonic cleaner off takealot, I think it was like 1500? Even with wax based lubes the chain comes out cleaner than I've ever got it...
