Well done sir! ny chance you can say where you bought it so people know how these are being sold. Might help others who have lost a ride.

errr, cool that this has been brought to light and if it is indeed the stolen bike, you asking for a possible refund on the money you spent on stolen property..... you see the issue? You should actually return it to the shop and take the cops with you.....

You are assuming he bought it from a shop ?

Fair enough, then take it back to whoever you bought it from...with the cops...after its confirmed that it was stolen...bottom line is expecting a refund for buying stolen goods is not kosher...

Did not buy it from a shop it was a private sale on facebook....the profile got deleted....cant get hold of the guy and clearly it was a fake profile.only after 2days I realised it was a stolen bike after a bit of more intense research....

i don't know what you paid for it...hopefully not so much that it will really hurt,  but if that were mine and i was in the position to do so, i'd definitely at-least want to offer you finders fee or something even if i couldnt fully reimburse your money.

i also get why some people might be suspicious. Unfortunaetly that is the spidey senses you develop  over time in SA.  a smart criminal might approach this as a way to sell bikes back to their owners and look totally innocent lol. These okes are very creative.

that being said...most people i know would probably buy their crap back from a criminal if they consider the alternatives. So the wheel just keeps turning....

Nice work but hopefully he / she has insurance, they've paid out and he's going shopping and leaving you with a sweet ride! Not sure what the legalities on that mind!

The bike then belongs to the insurance company and you are in possession of stolen property. This whole thing sucks for everyone.

I bought back my stolen makulu from someone (long story) I honestly thought I was doing the right thing. I notified the insurance company and they promptly came and took it away. I was hoping to buy it back from them but that didn't happen.

Daaaaaaa'yum son that's cold. No winners there.

Theres no rhyme or reason to insurance companies I've found. My father in law lost his IWC when gardening (long story as well) and reluctantly claimed. They got him a new one. About a year later the gardener found it and the FIL cut a cheque and sent it to the insurance company for the amount they paid out. They phoned him and said they couldn't do anything with it so he couriered the 'new' watch to them... they courier it back. In the end he sold it and donated the money to a school out on the flats and asked them to put a bench up with the insurance company name on it ad he emailed them a picture of their 'donation'.

If I lost my IWC in the garden, that place would look like an opencast mine before I gave up!
