Watch out for Shae_SA

Unfortunately I gave this hubber a good rating after our transaction on Wednesday 22nd of July... Not knowing that a 4 day nightmare was about to start.

I paid him for a Scott Foil RC that he advertised. We made a deal that I'll pay 22k and send him my Ultegra parts. I paid Wednesday and dropped off the groupset at Postnet the Thursday and immediately send him the tracking number.

He, can't confirm, send the bike on the Thursday but I never recieved a waybill number from him for that shipment. I asked about it, but no response.

Then Friday morning he lets me know that the bike came back because he didn't declare that is has a battery (Di2) inside. I then understand this and say it's no problem. He then sends the bike off on Friday (according to him with super express) and the battery with postnet. Once again, no waybill number for the bike and can't provide it even when asked multiple times...

He then provides me with a postnet tracking number for the di2 battery after I asked him for it multiple times. Tracking the number I find that it is a package that is going from Cape Town (3 Anchor Bay) to JHB (Broadacres). I inform him that it must be the wrong tracking number... Because I stay in Cape Town and he stays in JHB.

He then, once again after asking and bugging and pushing him multiple times, he confirms that he gave me the wrong tracking number... But he doesn't give me the correct one... I have to phone him to ask for the correct one...

Then he spins another story that his mom read the tracking number for him and he realized that the last number on the tracking number is wrong... It should be a 5 not a 6. Tracking that number... Finding out that the new "correct" tracking number is a fake one.

Mr Shae then denies and says it can't be and he doesn't understand it and and and...

Then I kept on asking for the waybill number of the bike... He then comes with another story, after ignoring me for some time, that the bike is already in Cape Town but the courier company is closed for a couple of days because they had a Covid positive case (creative I must say). Phoning the courier company this morning and providing them with all the detail that I have (yet no waybill number) we actually managed to trace down the bike... With all of the detail confirmed be me (my personal detaeand delivery address and and) the lady then brakes the news that the bike hasn't even been picked up in JHB yet.

Mr Shae still says that the bike has left. He also says that he doesn't know where the bike is. This he did over his work phone because for some reason my phone calls don't go through anymore, but if I phone from another number it goes through... Strange

Luckily my Ultegra parts has a legit Postnet tracking number (it's on its way back) and FNB confirmed this morning that the payment, he paid back my money, is legitimate and it will reflect in my account either today or tomorrow.

I have all the whatsapps to prove that what I said here is true. I will never ever recommend him to anyone...

Lesson learned for sure!

Not trying to take a jab, was just wondering. Some guys get a contact in another city to check the bike out on their behalf. I am just glad you got your ultergra back and the zar, just sucks you had to go through that.

i bought two bikes from the hub without seeing it, i was happy with both bikes

Yeah look you can buy something from a lot of guys here and trust them. We will unfortunately never rid the forum of all the weeds but at least the OP is warning us.

Can the OP edit his rating?

Completely understand man. I guess I "trusted" him as he works as a sales guy at a cycling shop. I don't want to mention the name of the shop because it would be negative exposure for the shop, and they have nothing to do with the transaction. Like I've said, multiple lessons learned from this.

You bought a bike without seeing it?

EDIT: Glad you getting your zar back.

I have also bought a few bikes and bits without seeing them.... Only ever had hassle once and it was minor.

I do always ask for pictures etc etc to try to cover myself. Usually state 'I've been burned before so just want to make sure'.... Guys are pretty understanding OR they get weird which means the plug is pulled.

These sorts of things suck. You might find he is actually legit but is depressed and weird in the current situation and is backing himself into holes. I've seen it happen when guys with the best intention land up looking terrible because they are too depressed to box and ship stuff.

Organising that/picking up a box and calling the courier/visiting the postnet are just steps that used to be easy but are now leaps that the guys just can't get their heads around.

Paying back your money is at least an honest end to the story and could be done from his/her lounge with little fuss.

Dunno, people are all in a mess at the moment and mental health has been hugely affected by the times and is often overlooked.

Pretty typical symptoms and reactions described

This is the problem these days, one simply dont know who you can trust and who not!  Peoples word is simply not their honor anymore (example Mr "Emazing").

I bought a few times without verifying or seeing the parts, luckily didn't burn my fingers yet, but it seems to be only a matter of time.

Pretty much the idea that I got from this guy... I even phoned him at work this morning just to ask him to explain the entire story... He apologized, but no explanation to all the weird stories he, clearly, made up.
