where to buy an over-ear headset

with back to back virtual meetings, i've come to realize that buying a proper set of noise cancelling over-hear headphones is not worth postponing any longer...

I've borrowed Sennheizer BT4.50's.  They work great but the ear cups are slightly too small, so it hurts after a while...

To me it's less about the actual quality of the sound and/or noise cancelling (all of these NC options have superb audio quality), so it boils down to the fit, especially if worn for 6 hours a day.

Is there a one-stop shop where I can try 3 or 4 different models (different brands) to feel which would have the best fit?

Probably looking to spend somewhere between R3k and R5k, not sure if the R10k top-of-the-line models are really necessary

My wife has a set of these for work and they are awesome.I borrow them every now and then and they are comfortable. Not sure of SA price though.

Yowser, just saw the price. Good grief....

But I guess if the quality fits the price point and if one was in a position where you'd wear earphones all day then I guess it makes sense. Kind of like the expensive mattress argument.

I have a set of Avantree cups that I purchased form TakeAlot.

They are okay. I used them on my little extended hospital stay. They do not block all the noise out from a high care ward, so you know when the nurse needed your attention.

I used them for about 3 weeks 6-13 hours per day. They are cheapie earphones but they did the job.

The could however not block out most noise in Steve Biko. But it sure as heck helped a lot to block out most of the talk of death at the oncology ward.

I still use them from time to time. They do the job, but I am looking for a better solution for my next hospital visit. But I might be looking for in ear rather than Over Ear. The one nurse always asked me to spin her a tune.

Have a look on EVETECH and PCLink.

Also, check out the reviews of whatever you want on Youtube. I decided on the above based on the mic review

Yo rudi-h .. where in SA are you?

If in CT, there is a Bose store on Somerset Road Green Point where you can try out their kit!

Take you credit card with you :P

Please skip Evetech. They have huge problems regarding warranty issues. Try Wootware of another retailer and skip Evetech.

Thanks Cois, wasn't aware. I eventually came right with PCLink. Apologies OP. With your budget, the shopfloor is open. My main concern was a decent mic for not too much money

Do not buy anything from Evetech!! just do a quick google of them and you will see its not a company you want to deal with.

Didn’t realize the SA pricing was that insane [emoji15][emoji85]

you really do not get much for your hard earned Z.A.R once you import goodies and the middle middle middle men take their cut
