We are travelling this coming weekend taking another car but with my carrier. Do i need to change the number plate or can i travel with my bakkie's number plate? Same as not having plates on your car. Impounding of the vehicle and/or arrest depending on how grumpy the traffic dude is. First hand experience when I had no plate on my bike. They will see it as having the wrong plate on the car. This isn't like towing a trailer where it is licensed on its own. The rack becomes an extension of the car itself. The guy sommer made the plate whilst I waited in the shop. Probably best to save yourself the hassle and just duplicate the cars number plate, you know each traffic cop has his/her own standards and rules...Isn't it like 200 bucks for a number plate? Group of friends passed through BW at the start of a long weekend .... the cops pulled over vehicles at random. A buddy had some convenient mud on his numberplate, while the bike was spotless clean .... "defeating the ends of justice"cuffs on ....off to the magistrates courtThankfully they got a hearing before the court closed for the long weekend, case postponed, bail paid, and they could carry on with their weekend. Carmichael Posted August 6, 2020 Share Bwest and N2, i did the same took a buddy's bike rack with his number plate and my amarok had my plate, got so much k*k, to ok the plate off and had to show the fine to 7 different cops who pulled me over, wasted almost 2 hours of driving time and alot of negotiations. The Ouzo Posted August 6, 2020 Share Had a cop coming from the opposite direction go all the way around the big circle in BW to stop us and try and issue fine for no plate, luckily it was there, just hanging lower down than what he expected. Could have gone BAD very quickly !! I will sure tell the traffic the police and the municipality there the next time BW run out of water I sure will not be dropping bottles of water off there again. DREDDY Posted August 6, 2020 Share Quick question. would this additional number plate be for bike carriers, where the wheels sit in the carrier, hooked to a towbar, like a Thule one OR the bikes that hang from a carrier, like a boot carrier, tied down with ropes and clips?
