Not sure how willing manufacturers are going to be to cut margins and make no profits, and with social distancing in place no crowding allowed. Think this year we will see longer periods of specials to avoid crowding which will result in smaller discounts due to the period, and more moving to online which is also a bummer due to quantity limits, websites failing, deliveries taking forever etc. Long Wheel Base 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am looking at prices now but not sure if black friday specials are ever that good? I don't want to pass up what looks like some good specials now to wait another 2 months and then there is nothing really cheap. Been set on buying one for a while now so can wait a bit longer. Luckily my 40” still works fine 32” is a bit too 2010 to watch Le Tour on haha. I need to upgrade both mine and the wifes iphones, the deals I'm looking at are at istore and instore only. I been twice now to eastgate, saw the queue outside the store and walked away. From a supply chain point of view it has been planned from well over 2 months ago. But what I don't know is if the prices from the retailer will be cheaper or not. I do recall reading that in general Black Fridays are statistically not that much cheaper than other sales throughout the year. But beware that usually promotions like that will always be on one or two high demand products to draw in the crowds so that they open their wallets anticipating more similar deals. It's much like the 99 cents price rounding point. It creates a subconcious illusion with the consumer that the price is good. My wife will always tell me something is nine-hundred rand, even when it's marked as 949.99. She steps right into the trap set by the store and ends up buying more than she needed.Another favourite retail strategy is to bundle goods together and sell them as a whole price, i.e. get product A and product B for R99.99, or buy 3 for the price of 2. If you had to pause, do the math and ask yourself if you need 3, or will 1 suffice, then you'd answer the question and if you're wise buy only 1, unless you really need 3. You might end up saving on the cost of 3 as opposed to the price of 2, but if you only bought 1, you'd be saving more...I'm not saying black friday deals are not worth it, but that's not the time to be emotional and impulsive. Do your homework now, know what it is you want and wait until you see a good deal on that specific item, and then strike if you're lucky. As for tech stuff, know that BF is a good time for retailers to dump end of life items at deep cut prices. But you already knew that, right? For online, I think you just need the TV licence number and copy of ID to be uploaded. I thought it was just going box ticking exercise when I went to get a new TV last weekend. I thought I could just pass it off as a 'monitor' and not have to get a TV licence. I've never had one previously due to bringing a lot of my home stuff from France when I moved here and then insurance replacing that TV and so on. Turns out they wouldn't sell me one without a licence. I took my moms back to the store but that was an issue and then I had to go and buy one for myself. Honestly I thought it was an expensive thing that would take loads of time but it was about R250, took less than 5 minutes online and it was done.
