LOOK KG 381 Makeover

In 2004 I bought myself a new Look KG381i frame set. The “i” stood for integrated stem and it was the first for Look frames. Aluminium lugs bonded with carbon tubes. Each of the 3 tubes making up the triangle has different shapes. Stunning frames.   It is pedigree frame as used by Laurant Jalabert when he won the Tour de France KOM classification in 2002.

 

The bike has served me well for all these years, being demoted to winter training bike for the last 10 years and becoming the indoor training lately.  Last year I decided that such a classic frame should be put to better use and undergo a makeover. The red paint with white decals looked very dated and some knicks over time made the bike look a bit shabby.

 

 

My initial thoughts were to go plain white with the updated Look branding as per the Credit Agricole Look KG381 team bikes (See pic). My eyes then later fell upon the team bikes  of the Team Kelme Costa Blanca (when they rode the KG381) and I was sold on the colour scheme. No changing my mind any longer. 

 

Only one guy was going to do this job for me. What a piece of work. BOGUS YOU BEAUTY.

 

Some other modifications I will make:  changing the hoops from the Mavis Sups (on Record hubs) to something more modern (deep section rims), upgrading the Chorus 10spd drivetrain (shifters, FD,RD, chain & cassette) to Campagnolo 11 spd. All else would remain as is.

 

Will post a pic of the completed project. Cannot wait to get onto my old new steed 
