Mogli081 Posted September 4, 2020 Share Hi Hubbers, I need some help.....i am looking at converting my bike ( 29 inch softail) to a 1 x setup ( from a 3 x 10) unfortunately the minister of finance has limited my options....Also, there are so many different post that its actually confusing. I know its all personal preference but i would like to hear from you guys as I am considering one of the following: Shimano SLX M7000 11-46 1 x 11 (R2990.00) vs Sram NX Eagle 11- 50 1 x 12 (R4990.00) is it worth it forking out the extra 2k for the Sram? i am the average weekend warrior doing maybe 200km a month in and around the cradle. i am considering a 34T front chainring. DMJ Posted September 4, 2020 Share If you shop around you can get XT 1x12, which is what I run, for R4500. DieselnDust
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted September 4, 2020 Share No, it's not. I'd take SLX over the NX any day, to be honest. Kom, peetwindhoek, Patensie and 6 others
DMJ Posted September 4, 2020 Share I also run a 34t. Gives me plenty if gears at both ends. Mogli081

Personally i feel its overkill?
DR ◣◢ Posted September 4, 2020 Share NX derailleurs tend to fall apart for no reason whatsoever and within a couple of months of buying them. Go for the SLX or anything else Shimano. Just a more robust brand on the lower end of things. TheoG and Vroetelvarkie
greg_sa Posted September 4, 2020 Share I'd definitely do with the SLX. It is on a higher level compared to NX (IMHO), and cheaper. Vroetelvarkie and Mogli081

Thanks, slx is my first choice...leaves me with some extra cash to spend on something else..unless i start going into the slx 11 vs 12 but i feel that is subject for another day....2023 maybe :-)

That little XTR felt like a potato in comparison. TheoG

DR ◣◢ Posted September 4, 2020 Share Those that don't falling apart end up stuck in the dinner plate every so often and won't shift down without help Going through the RMA process now on an almost brand new NX derailleur. It kept sitting on the dinner plate. The shop was nice enough to agree to upgrading it to a GX. Google tells me the GX also likes to eat itself. Must be honest my GX I've had for a year and a half has not given a moments trouble *touches wood* DR ◣◢
ChrisF Posted September 4, 2020 Share Thanks DMJ, i am battling to justify spending 2k on the extra gear, maybe because i just don't now enough at this stage . Personally i feel its overkill? JIP ... the 1x11 will do the job perfectly. I have had two 1x12 setups, currently 3 bikes with 1x11. When I do fiddle with my commuter it will also be 1x11. Cost is becoming less of an issue .... some nice specials on 1x12 options to be had. My personal experience is that the 1x11 is just "more robust", less finiky than some of the 1x12 setups ... for this alone I am avoiding 1x12. Certainly, there are some super smooth and reliable 1x12 options, but now we are talking about a different price bracket. These are just my limited personal experiences .... certainly there will be people with more positive experiences on entry level 1x12 equipment. Spurs Posted September 4, 2020 Share You could even go for the XT setup for a fraction more https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-xt-m8000-11sp-upgrade-kit Mogli081 and ChrisF
