Morning techy Hubbers.

Decided to give Rain 4G a bash to stream le Tour despite the numerous bad reviews out there. Unfortunately I did not heed their warning, and download speeds aren't even 1Mbps, which is totally unacceptable.

Signal strength is fine. I'm using a Huawei Mifi router for day-to-day.

Any help? Or should I just cancel?

I tried them for a month. Useless. Hardly any signal strength. I too disregarded the warnings and thought I'd  give them a try. Their signal is worse than the Telkom signal I have sometimes.

Cancel.

They are absolutely abysmal on their best day and any tech support or customer service is just a fairy tale.

A laughable excuse for an ISP.

I joined them a few months ago and we've had the odd bad day but for what we need it works fine. I've got their 4g LTE with my own wireless router. My kids are streaming nexflix at the moment and I'm on the web just browsing. And both my wife and I are using it for work emails, teams calls etc. Most of the time it works fine.

Tech support is utterly crap and if you are not IT/Tech inclined its a battle but in my case RAIN out performs MTN and Vodacon...and that's on the R480 restricted package as well....

It is area dependent at a guess, if you are in a high use area with a lot of customers it slows to a crawl.

Where I am every other LTE provider gives speeds at least 20 times those of Rain.

I used them for a month... even less to be honest. Could not stream anything on their network.

Was fine for my wife to work on while we waited for our Fibre to be installed

I would give them a 2/10.

Support 0/10

Accounts 0/10

Speed 4/10

Streaming 1/10 (not even Youtube would work)

General browsing 7/10

We pulled 70 GB’s on them. My wife pulls 300GB per month on our fibre.

I submitted a review on HelloPeter. They responded to the post within a day to say someone would contact me.

That was 2 days ago, still nothing. I simply cannot understand why they are taking so long. Are they on reduced staff? Do they not give a ****?

This bit.

Before we jumped ship my wife phoned them on multiple occasions in a desperate attempt to get the speed improved. She said you could sense the shoulder shrugging happening over the phone.

Nothing....Evidently I live in an area that isn't over subscribed for the node....But as mentioned I have even had a Vodacom techie out here who installed an external antenna etc and the Vodacom service still performed worse than RAIN....Anyway, I am grateful for what I have....not that long ago EDGE was leading tech in my town.....

Cancel, the issue is not in an area that you can influence. i.e you cant position the device better or get an external antenna to help.

The issues are band saturations and their network that just cant cut it.

Im honestly not sure how Rain stays in business with their shocking service.

They are very quick to respond to posts on social media etc saying they will contact you to sort the issue out.

That contact never seems to happen.

Same thing happens on the My Broadband forums where a rep says someone will take a look but nothing comes from it.

Been reading a bunch more threads on carbonite and MyBroadband, and it seems the best action to take is to cancel.

Any other uncapped LTE deals you guys can recommend? I can only get Vodacom fibre where I live and it's a bit pricey for my liking.

Lots of warnings about rain on mybroadband forum.

You can get monthly MTN 4G packages from Axxess  for a reasonable cost, it works quite well with a decent router.  Fixed to one base station though. I have 150 +150 for R749 pm, service is okay.

Webafrica also doing fixed MTN but their support ... hmm, I think they have too many customers.

You wont find uncapped LTE/4G with MTN, even Telkom uncapped is speed limited BUT stay away from anything Telkom!
