CWC vs Specialized

So for all those complaining about CWC all the time, let me share 2 experiences:

Specialized Tygerberg:

Came in about 2 months ago for a pair of shoes. It wasn't in stock but was available for order on the system. After following up a month later I was told it was still coming. Still no feedback a month later, I call again to be told there is no stock and I won't be getting the shoes, even though it showed available when the order was placed... Not a phone call along the way. I expected better from that brand....

CWC:

I bought a pair of Oakley on an online store that doesn't exists anymore. Following a problem with the frame I needed to log a warranty claim. Oakley told me they don't deal with individuals, and I needed to go to the shop i bought it from. As this wasn't possible I went to CWC asking if they could help, which they did. That plus phone calls to inform me of the progress...

I have no ties to either stores but I know where I'll go next time I need accessories...

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I also had terrible service from the same Spez shop over the past few months. They used to be brilliant and would go out of their way to assist (I'm in Joburg and they have helped me on many occasions), but recently, it took 5 months to buy a hanger for my wife's SL4

I always have great service from CWC. In fact, had them box and ship a bike that I bought from a hubber just yesterday and they called me to let me know of progress and what to expect when the bike reaches Jhb.

As for Spez, I've heard of stories of poor service from a number stores. But thought that I would love to single out Lynnwood Cyclery in Pretoria as one that has absolutely FANTASTIC service and communication. Andre over there goes the extra mile for all his clients... a lot of my mates have had the same great experience! So I guess it really boils down to the culture of the shop at the end of the day.

same poor service from Spez in Hout Bay. Seems you need to buy a R150k bike to get some attention

I was going to say this...

If you dont look the part when you walk into their stores, they dont really offer the service you looking for.

i had such bad service with Specialized that i sold my bike and promised myself i will never go back there. I am a person that will rather pay extra to get good customer service, unfortunately good customer service is becoming scarce in SA, especially with Service Providers.

Really?

Poor and good service stories by the thousands can be told about every single bike shop that's ever existed. I've had poor service from CWC, but also good service from them. Same with multiple Specialized shops. Service is something that involves people and a @#$!-load of variables in each interaction, it's impossible for it to be consistent.

All that's happened on this thread now is that someone has created a complaint for others to latch onto. There are multiple threads about rubbish service from CWC all over the place if you go to the trouble of searching for it. Guess what though: There are also threads about good service.

To each person who has moaned so far in this thread: I'd be willing to bet my bike that your co-workers, boss, clients or someone else you deal within your job has complained about your service at least once in the last few months.

Why does our society have this incessant need to bad-mouth the shop every time they experience poor service from an individual?

I hate poor service as much as the next bloke but I always take it up with the shop's management directly. 9 out of 10 times they're going to apologies and attempt to address the problem. Surely, that's a much more constructive and effective approach to tackling poor service than tarnishing their reputation publicly.

Agreed, if you have a problem with how someone has handled something, chat to them about it. Maybe they'll apologise and resolve it themselves, maybe they'll ignore you and it would then be reasonable to chat to their boss. Maybe their boss also ignores you or isn't forthcoming, in which case you should stop and think about the possibility that you may be the problem. It's never impossible. If you come to the conclusion that you really didn't do anything wrong, go somewhere else.

Funny thing is that after posting here and on FB, they magically found my number and called to say they found a pair at another store that should arrive today ...
