Centurion D5 Gate motor help

Hoping someone here has some experience and can help.

 

I've got a Centurion D5 Gate motor that I installed my self about 12 years or so back.

Recently it has been giving some issues. It started by sometimes hitting the limits both open and closed and sometimes just getting stuck halfway open.

The wheels on the gate were rather worn so I replaced those, it no longer got stuck halfway but would still occasionally hit the limiters.

It then started only opening part way, like a pedestrian opening, pushing the remote again would close it. But if I left it for a minute or 2 and then tried again it would open normally.

We replaced the battery on the motor and all was well again.

 

It then started occasionally hitting the stops again, and yesterday hit the stop so hard it bounced the gate off the rails.

 

My wife left the car outside for the day yesterday and when I got home I put the gate back on the rails and decided to try setting the limits again.

The limits set fine, but once done it would only open to pedestrian access.

Tried setting limits a second time. Same thing.

 

Oh and before its suggested, I did check the gate position pickup, and you can hear it click as the pickup passes the gate so it "should" be working.

 

Any ideas ?

It may click (mechanical) but does not mean that the signal is getting to the control board. I have a similar issue - battery fine controller fine all mechanics fine so I'm about to remove the pickups and have Centurian check them. There are two sensors one on the rail and one on the motor. If you remove the control board Centurion will check it for you for gratis.

Maybe take the controller board out and get it tested. It is free and they might tell you why the gate does not stop.

 

I had my board tested two months ago and it was quick.

Yep, take it to one of their branches to have it tested, worth the effort. 

 

All your other fault finding steps were good, so you cleared out the most obvious culprits.

 

Maybe just slide the gate manually from  side to side with the origin magnet passing the pickup, the screen should tell you that the origin is on the left or on the right as it goes past. If that checks out, the only remaining issue is probably the controller board. Think they retail for about R1000 IIRC, not nothing, but if it sorts it out you should be fine for another 15 years or so.

I replaced my controller board about three times in the 12 years I had my d5. Once due to a lightning strike, once due to a short circuited Brown house snake and another time due to it driving me nuts with limits

But thanks everyone, it seems I'll need to take the controller out and get it tested.

Consider getting the Evo Upgrade kit if the controller is shot and you need to replace anyways, way more user friendly.

There are 2 places close to you you can take it to. The one is stafix at the jetpark off ramp and the other is centurion themselves, they just around the bottom of the runway. My first option would be centurion themselves. But from your house they both about the same distance. I have been to both and received good service from both. Just not sure what stafix will do as they just a dealer.

 

I see you say you don't have the lcd screen, do you have any led lights at all? My battery died during lockdown and the lcd display said all was good but I had a red flashing light. Googled informed me the amount of flashes meant battery was kuss.

Stafix is close to Eland Slaghuis, lekker biltong.

Centurion is right next to the runway, get to see planes land.

Both have advantages............

@Ouzo, did you come right?

I've literally just got back. Board tested fine.

They've told me to check the sensor connection on the motor but have also advised that after 12 years of service that motor most definitely will need a service.

 

So I'll check the sensor thing this weekend and if I dont come right I'll take the entire motor to them

I have just remembered..I also replaced my dos sensor once and that sorted out limits issues
