So keen to give a solo pedal to raise funds for a NGO program in Cape Town.

Any tips on routes I need to ride? This is route I created vir Strava with heatmaps.

Advice on destinations to stay over?

Wanted to know peoples opionon on solo riding? I'm not too worried, obviously just have to be cautious  whats around me.

Anything else you would recomend.

Side note - the route up to Swellendam will hopefully be avoided with the Malgas Pont. Anyone know if it's open yet?

Cheers

I can't comment on the route -sorry.  I am interested  to know if you will be camping/self supporting?  Or staying in Air BnB's or something similar?

Planning to take a tent with in case, but would love to meet local cyclist and crash either on a couch or camp in a  garden.

It should be a great trip. Just a couple of comments:

- Avoid Baden Powell Muizenberg towards SW, trucks, speeding cars, general poor driving & no safe verge for large parts. Security might also be an issue.

- New pont over the Breede should be working but phone the Malagas hotel closer to departure to confirm.

- watch out for tortoises on the Vermaaklikheid - Silbaai stretch ;-) ...actually, watch out for the white bakkie brigade, especially the local idiot in his Landcruiser

- coming back I'd really recommend going over Montagu pass outside George to Oudtshoorn, then Van Wyksdorp via Rooiberg pass.

- next stop from van Wyksdorp could be Barrydale. Ideally you'd stay on the dirt north of Barrydale to Montagu but then you're looking at a real big day out (150km+)

- don't ride Worcester - Paarl over du Toits. Rather go further north and head over Bainskloof to Wellington

Thanks, regarding Paarl - Worcester, I changed it actully to Franschoek - Villiersdorp - Keeping inland on some dirt roads and then back along the coast as much as possible.

While I like those tents where your bike forms part of the frame I prefer free standing so if you need to pop into town for a packet of Camel and a half jack, your tent remains up.

Oh, and a tip. When we backpacked in Africa I tied our backpacks to my ankle when we went to sleep.

Do the same with the bike.
